LEXANDRIA, Va. — Two days after American voters spoke, Virginia Republican Sen. George Allen made their decision final when he conceded his Senate battle to challenger Jim Webb, officially completing a Democratic sweep of Congress. Allen conceded the race at 3:15 p.m. ET during a press conference Thursday in Alexandria, Va. "Sometimes wins, political or otherwise, can blow the leaves off branches or even break limbs but a deep-rooted tree … will regrow in the next season," Allen said during his concession speech. The voters of Virginia have spoken, he said, "and I respect their decision."

I found a lot not to like about Allen during the last year, but it's good to see him concede a close decision with grace and dignity, without filing lawsuits and without his supporters making hysterical claims about vote fraud and vote obstruction. Democrats could take a lesson.

Congratulations on your victory. You got Allen. We will remember now when 2008 comes around and you start singing the praises of McCain just which side the McCainiacs REALLY are on.

I tell you what, that guy's going to regret he ever made a big deal of that - his name for the rest of his LIFE will be "macaca."

Allen's real raw deal, he is a good guy but now has this stigma to haunt him.

I'm really curious how many women voted for this creep. Webb, by his own comments/writings, really has a deep hatred towards the female gender. Really curious.

After everything the media threw at this man, I'm surprised he did as well as he did. Now, Virginians can be proud of the perv that they elected.

While people will be pointing fingers at this and that, the fact of the matter is that Virginia is seeing a steady influx of knee-jerk liberals, especially in the North.

Well, that and the "conspicuous" fact that Webb gained about 40,000 votes when the last 2% of the precincts reported. Suspicious? Nah, that's just what Democrats call a "coincidence."

"Sometimes winds, political or otherwise, can blow the leaves off branches or even break limbs but a deep-rooted tree … will regrow in the next season,"

Unhinged by his loss, George Allen morphs into Chauncy Gardener.

Allen's a good guy, probably too nice. Still scratching my head how he could be tackled from behind on the "Maccaca" thing. Seriously, I didn't even know what the word meant or had connotations of meaning. Allen defeated himself by apologizing like 12 times over such a silly issue. He needed to be more stand up and just tell people to lighten up and get over themselves and move on. He let that whole thing linger much too long.

Jim Webb

Two purple hearts, Two Bronze Stars, One Silver Star and the Naval Cross

Served the Reagan Administration for 4 years eventually becoming the Secretary of the Navy a post which he resigned rather than reduce the size of the Navy.

Webb's only son is currently serving in Iraq.

Despite a life of distinguished and honorable service the majority of FR tried to deceitfully slander the guy as pedophile.

It is disheartening that Freepers have reached a point where all that matters is the (R) next to the name

Disgraceful.
