ROTHSCHILD, Wisc. Guests at one local hotel who switch on the TV in search of the latest news no longer have CNN as an option.
The Stoney Creek Inn, 1100 Imperial Ave., in Rothschild has dropped the 24-hour news channels CNN and CNN Headline News from its basic cable offerings.
Tony Magro, 76, of Barrington, Ill., stayed at the inn Monday night and said he was told by a receptionist that the hotel chains corporate office had issued a letter calling for the removal of the channels because CNN aids terrorists.
Im not an activist, and I really dont have any interest, but that struck me as over the top, Magro said. Im rather zealous about my rights as an American citizen, particularly when Im paying for the service.
Magro, who was driving to Michigans Upper Peninsula for the funeral of a friend when he had car trouble Monday in the Wausau area, said he had tried tuning in to CNN to find the latest news on todays mid-term elections.
The channel was nowhere to be found, and he received an updated channel listing from the front desk today. The updated listing includes news channels MSNBC, CNBC, Fox News, C-SPAN and C-SPAN 2.
James Thompson, owner and chief executive officer of Stoney Creek Hospitality Corp., made the decision to remove the channels, according to the inns corporate office in Des Moines, Iowa. Thompson is out of the office today and was not immediately available for comment.
Stoney Creek Hospitality Corp. manages 10 hotels in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. The 107-room inn near the Cedar Creek Mall opened in 1997.
No, Mr. Magro...you're paying for the room..the Inn is paying for the service, therefore, it's their call. You see how they always spin this as a loss of freedom issue.
Amen.
Personally, I will not stay at any establishment which does not carry Fox News. And while it used to be pretty common to NOT find it on the TV, in the last two years I haven't run into anyplace which didn't.

Good news indeed. While I've never asked to have CNN removed, I have requested that hotels I visit carry FOXNEWS and they almost always get it done.
Business owners have rights too, Mr. Magro. I applaud the Stoney Creek Inn for their decision. Maybe folks who live in Wisconsin could throw some business their way in a show of support. God bless them!
Well, they are.
It would be nice to see Marriots, motel 6, et. al. follow suit.
Watching CNN is a "right"? It's the owner's place and his is the right to offer services or not to do so. You don't like it, you have the right to stay somewhere else.
Wow, this I love to see, standing up for America is so rare these days.
When we had our Dish satellite system installed 6 years ago, the first thing I had the installer do was to show me how to block all CNN channels. He laughed and said that was a fairly common move by those of us who cancelled our cable bs for Dish to get Fox News.
Wish that would spread to Free Republic!

Well, Mr Magro, you can take your business to another inn/hotel/motel. The constitution doesn't force an inn owner to carry the Clintoon Noolding Network.
Please tell me your kidding.
Last 2 places I've stayed have both fox and cnn in their mix of news. a little bit of both keeps everyone happy.
What you said.
(I'm glad that just for once, I read the thread before I started typing up my impassioned response.)

76? He sounds more like a bratty 6 year old.
