Wal-Mart, long pummeled by the political left, is taking additional flak from the right.
A conservative activist group is trying to recruit one million families who will refuse to shop at Wal-Mart or Sam's Club on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, traditionally two of the busiest shopping days of the year.
The American Family Association is furious with Wal-Mart for reaching out to homosexual advocacy groups that support same-sex marriage.
The criticism began when Wal-Mart announced it would join the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. And now Wal-Mart has made a deal with the Washington DC Center for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender People, agreeing to donate 5 percent of the sales made through the group's website to the Center.
"Every purchase made online for books, music, videos, clothing and accessories, children's clothing and toys, and electronics at the site will automatically send 5% of the sales to the CCBLBT People," the AFA said in a message to its supporters.
"The agreement is an indication that Wal-Mart is totally committed to supporting the homosexual movement," the AFA said.
The conservative advocacy group complains that Wal-Mart also gave a "generous cash donation" to the Northwest Arkansas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center, helping to provide a place where homosexuals can come together to "socialize."
The AFA says Wal-Mart should have remained neutral in the cultural battle over homosexual marriage.
It says Wal-Mart made an "ideological" decision, not a business decision.

Oops! Maybe I can buy a 'Speller's Dictionary' on my next Wal-Mart run? LOL!
Let me guess, aaaaa to make money?
Looks like WalMart doesn't have a thing to worry about according to the title of this article.
I have plenty of choices for shopping, just not major retailers, and I am very supportive of local small businesses and many of them I have found because of referrals from staff at the local WalMart.
You and I are just going to have to agree to disagree on this because I see no harm in this. The more people that shop online, whether it be WalMart or anywhere else, the better for those of us who do not. It cuts down on crowds
I am not an Anti-WalMart leftists and I am man enough to say my everything comment was wrong. I am a true American who will not buy anything from WalMart that is made in China. I will buy some Mac and Cheese though. If you want to prop up a Communist nation with your hard earned American money then go ahead. I for one will not.
I really don't care who supports AFA or who they support, and I don't care who WalMart supports when it has no impact on me. Giving an organization a commission from sales generated through that groups website is a common internet business practice. As long as the organization does not violate the terms of service of the company providing the affiliate commission, I don't have any problem.
I do not like Target, and stopped shopping there before moving to an area where there is no Target, but even though I don't like them, I dislike urban myths even more.
Target donates plenty to the Salvation Army. The reason the kettles are no longer permitted at Target is because Target was being targetted for lawsuits. The kettles were an exception to Target's strick no solicitation policy.
Why were they are a target for lawsuits?
Wally world donates to a lot of places, groups, etc... conservative and liberal.
What part of "FREE MARKET" do you not understand. They are "FREE" to donate to whomever they chose. You are "FREE" to shop elsewhere.
I oppose libs who boycott things also.
The people who work at wally world and sell a pair of Wrangler jeans to me for 20 bucks as opposed to double that at a dept store make the same if not more.
We do not know if the story is even true, like the one about Target owned by the Frenchies. It is just a way to get a hit on Wal-Mart.
Look where the stiry started and it may have been a union.
I try very hard to not buy anything from China from any retailer, but it gets harder by the day because many American brand products are now made there. I do not blame WalMart for GE making it's small kitchen appliances in other countries, including China, anymore than I blame Target or K-MArt or any other retailer for where the manufacturers build their products.
Singling out WalMart for selling products made in China is just as bad as saying everything they sell is made in China (not directed at you personally). Retailers have to meet the demands of their customers or else they go out of business. Retailers rely on manufacturers to produce the products demanded by their customers.
I guess what I'm trying to say is the retailer becomes low man on the totem pole when it comes to where they can get the products to fill their shelves and the blame is misdirected when it is pointed at the retailers.
Because they allowed the Salvation Army to set up the kettles against their own no solicitation policy while at the same time prohibitting other organizations from soliciting because of the policy.
So instead of either being sued or having to allow anyone to solicit, they just extended it to the kettles. But they do have programs for donations in the stores and on the website during the normal weeks of the kettle drive.
I knew that at the outset. ;-)
Kiddo,
no need to be rude like that. i agree with the poster you are responding to.
Which, could be Wal-Mart...if you can actually find what you want and then find an open register with a competent cashier.
Yeah, there's a point. I went to Wal-Mart the other day, and out of about 20 check-out stands there were to cashiers. They have about 8 self-check stations, but their scanners never work.
Oh cyborg! Your eyes! Don't get me started on people not controlling what they eat...[I had an arguement with some chocolates last week and they won...]
My WM now has the shoes arranged ala mode de Target. I don't think their goods can compete though. Target is Marshall Field, you know.
Helps to make the point that people have different levels or degrees of tolerance.
