President Bush yesterday said he will team up with Democrats to pass an immigration bill with a guest-worker program that his own party blocked this year, and his Republican opponents predicted a bloody intraparty fight but said they cannot stop such a bill from passing.
"We will fight it, we will lose. It will go to the Senate, it will pass. The president will sign it. And it will happen quickly because that's one thing they know they can pass," said Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican and chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus, who had led the opposition to a guest-worker plan. "I am absolutely horrified by this prospect, but I have to face reality."
Mr. Bush supported a bipartisan majority in the Senate this year that passed a broad immigration bill including a new worker program and citizenship rights for millions of illegal aliens. But House Republicans blocked those efforts, calling them an amnesty, and instead forced through a bill to erect nearly 700 miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border.

I had not even had my morning cup of coffee Wednesday morning, after staying up to 3AM watching returns, when the first thing that I heard yesterday morning was "Immigration Reform". I had not heard that term in weeks.
I think you named three Democrats who oppose Amnesty. I will make a cyber bet with you. When the vote comes---they will vote for it. Byrd too.
Like he gives a damn.
I knew this was coming, I can not believe how tone death thsi president is.
Maybe not, I have heard rumors that the state party is thinking of seeing if he would switch parties. If he does they will support him, if not he is toast.
Our first priority must be to secure ports and borders to keep out terror threats, illegal drugs and illegal immigrants. Jon Tester opposes amnesty for those who are here illegally. People who want to come to America should follow the rules and we should enforce them. There should be no cuts in line. Moreover, hiring illegal aliens is no joking matter. Tester believes we need to enforce the law on employers who hire illegal immigrants no matter who they are. Its not just a matter of fairness its a question of national security.Brown also has a slightly better voting record on amnesties than DeWine did.
Well, for all you Repubs who wanted to send a message to the Repub party by voting 3rd party or not al all...here it comes-amnesty for illegals. The house was the only things standing in the way of Amesty legislation. Now you can bet the program will be in effect by next year.
Oh, goody...
The Republican Party can either stand for something or nothing. If they wish to survive, perhaps it's time for the Republicans to philibuster their own President. If they look carefully, they will see he isn't running for anything any more.
Most of the new Dems in the house ran as moderate conservatives, but (like Max Cleland in GA) they will govern as liberal Democrats. Say what you must to get elected and then do what you want-the democratic stategy is to lie, lie and lie to the voters.
2008 will either be a sweep of the RINOs or a total capitulation to socialism. There's just not much wriggle room anymore. I wouldn't bloody a finger defending this RINO - we're sick of RINOs in Ohio.
Great, now it's ok to impeach President Bush? I remember the fallout in 1976. You think Tuesday was a bad night? Read up on 1976. You have to understand that Bush was always in favor of this-he freely discussed it during both campaigns. The only thing stopping him was the house. You can not impeach a President because he disagree with you.
It doesn't matter about the members in the party, it matters who controls the agenda.
The gop house was a firewall against amnesty.
McConnell would have also been better and listened more to conservatives than Harry Reid leading the senate.
Gop districts don't vote for party while dem districts vote for party. That has lead us to pelosi and reid.
Looks like our non-conservative President finally has a Congress he can work with. yay.
I hate it. I absolutely hate it. I feel betreayed by Bush.
LOL --- yeah, right, it was his plan. /s
How were you had? Didn't you vote GOP?
