Retaking the US Senate in 2008
11-9-2006 | self

Posted on 11/08/2006 9:15:35 PM PST by staytrue

All we have to do to retake the senate is to win 2 of these 12 seats.

Arkansas: Pryor (D) Delaware: Biden (D) Illinois: Durbin (D) Iowa: Harkin (D) Louisiana: Landrieu (D) Massachusetts: Kerry (D) Michigan: Levin (D) Montana: Baucus (D) New Jersey: Lautenberg (D) Rhode Island: Reed (D) South Dakota: Johnson (D) West Virginia: Rockefeller (D)

It looks like we could have a shot at Pryor, Harkin, Baucus, and Johnson.

AND THEN ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS HOLD ALL 21 OF OUR OWN SEATS THAT ARE UP.

. . and replace them with who? democrats?

Maybe you are not aware of it, but there are these things called primaries - ask Joe Lieberman.

With the new Democrat majority and the President's leadership, amnesty will happen and all those illegals will be voting, as DEMOCRATS! Illegal alien voting probably tipped the scale against Allen. Yeah, they do vote in Virginia, in large numbers.

Virginia is becoming a blue state with conservative pockets. Northern Virginia is now almost as reliably Democrat as Massachusetts (60% in the last three statewides.) If Warner is again the candidate, with his history of joining the Gang of 14 and obstructing judges and going soft on the war, he will have less support from conservatives who need to be motivated to win.

Looking over the list is really, really depressing. Something big is going to have to happen like a major terrorist attack on the U.S. that can be penned on the Democrats because they left us vulnerable. Absent that and I think it a long time in the wilderness. But certainly the presidency is ours if we stick together. This circular firing squad business finally caught up with us this year. I've seen too many people here saying they wouldn't vote for this or that Republican candidate. If that is the case the Democrat wins every time. This is cutting off one's nose to spite their face.

There was an element of voter stupidity at play here too. A lot of people just fall for whatever the Daily Show or the MSM spew at them. That's always been a factor, but it really seemed in play this election with the idea that we needed this mystical "change" with most of those couch potatoes having no idea what kind of change they wanted or even why they wanted it. The idea of "divided government" was also played up big by the same culprits. We're going to have to do something about that by the next election. FOX News isn't enough.

On a slightly unrelated note, I saw a person on TV being interviewed who said he wants Hillary to be President in 2008 because she's "hot". I kid you not. I'm sure we all know people like that in the world. Thankfully, a lot of them don't actually get out and vote. Unfortunately, enough do sometimes to make a difference.

you want the base to use the primary process, to elect even more conservative candidates - in a state like Virginia per your example - that you admit is becoming more diverse and less republican.

how the hell is that candidate then supposed to win the statewide race against the Democrat?

in many states, the conservative base can elect a senator - GA, SC, UT, etc - you want to use the primary process there to get more conservative candidates, go right ahead.

But in the "other" states, and VA is one of them now, the conservatives there either are part of a winning coalition, that branches out to get other voters - or the Dems win those states.

I was in agreement with you up until yesterday. We spent to much time on this war we have failed. The sooner we recognize that the better.

I agree. 2008 election may take place in a bunker or in a pile of rubble. The dems will turn the WOT into a police action again . They will empty Gitmo , end wire tapping , pull support for Israel and have TV circus trials for terrorist. Next 2 years will be a nightmare. Oh yea, with Bush's help we'll have illegals running over us like ants .

I could not agree more. Never happen in states like CA and NY.

Pryor will be in for life in AR. He is a blue dog. His daddy was a lifetime Senator. He is more conservative than most democrats. The Arkansas Rep party sucks and is almost non existent. There is no one I know of who could run and beat him. Heck he may be unoppossed.

Any terrorist attack in the next 10 years will be blamed on Bush , that's a given . The dems,I'm sure , have the speeches written in advance already . They know it's coming and they know just how to slip out of the blame. Any report on celebrating in the Middle east over Dem wins? Bet OBL is happy as hell.

Imagine, along with Whirled Peas--an independent conservative the way that Lieberman is an independent liberal.

Think of the wonderful position that Lieberman is in! Courted by the libs (as he is pained by their betrayal), courted by the Pubs (who hope he'll help out with Iraq and Israel)...it'd just be such a cool position to be in. It just causes such envy. We get slapped around by Tony Snow on Election Eve.

Nobody's slapping Joe.

Thanks for filling me in. Yeah, it was Jindal against Blanco.

It seems to me that we are going to have to sit back over the next few months and see who wants to take power among the GOP congress, maybe a true conservative leader will emerge there. I hope.

Anyway, I got other,...more local issues to address,... I'm from Maryland, where the GOP has effectively been destroyed as of last night.

Now entering the Republic of Southern Massachusetts, Mayor Martin O'Malley, Governor. Hablemos español.

Johnnie, isn't it about time for you to pull a Jeffords and switch parties? The democrats are sure to write the policy goals of the OBL that you advocate into law by the end of 2007, and Bush will undoubtedly sign off on it...

...by 2008, we will have a demographic situation where Republicans - and perhaps conservatives - are relegated to permanent minority status.

If there is another terrorist attack the Democrats in charge will get the blame. Even the media will not be able to cover that up.

I think you're wrong my friend. They will say because of Bush's policy this happened. The media worked VERY hard to put the dems in and will give them a pass on ANYTHING !

The fact that her brother wasn't able to defeat Ray, 'Chocolate City', Nagin for Mayor of New Orleans, just shows that their 'base' has not returned to the state, and perhaps never will.

I disagree,  the Democrats will get the blame. President Bush and the GOP have kept us safe from attacks since 9/11. The Democrats are in charge now and if we get hit they get the blame. If the economy tanks because they don't renew the tax cuts, they get the blame. This country may look much different in 2008.

I do understand your point about the media but they can only cover for them so much.  Look at the unemployment rate and the economy today, they better hope it stays that way. We don't need the media to tell us how much tax we pay or how much money we have in the bank.   Have we had any terrorist attacks while the GOP has been in control and given us the tools we need to fight terrorism.  If the Democrats continue to oppose those things and we get hit they're toast.
