-SNIP-

But a source told NBC News’ military analyst Bill Arkin that prior to the election, Vice President Dick Cheney argued with other politicians over whether Rumsfeld should stay. White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and others said Rumsfeld should be removed, the source said. Both sides agreed the decision would be made after the election, when Bush would make the final call based on how Republicans did.

According to the source, Bush agreed Rumsfeld should be removed after seeing election results favoring Democrats. Cheney then lost another argument, protesting Gates’ nomination as Rumsfeld’s replacement.

"...Aaron shall bring the goat on which the Lord's lot fell, and offer it as a sin offering. But the goat on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make atonement upon it, and to let it go as the scapegoat into the wilderness."

I'm a great fan of Rummy.
Now he's being morphed to McNamarra by the media...

The Milicrats against Rumsfeld's reforms benefit from this. Expect many Dem's in the districts of benefit to really enjoy going along with this, for those of you in Reo-Lynda that means PORK.

The question is, who and when succumbs to Cunningham like behavior on the the Dem's side......

The VP had better watch out, the plan to punish the party with a MSM/DNC/OBL victory has beheaded many Conservatives in power.

A simply brilliant political strategy, barf.

Not Bolton (UN Ambassador) - J Bolten (Chief of Staff)

I wish Bolton was very very powerful - like POTUS for instance.

:-)

Rumsfeld should have resigned when it came out the BRAC methodology he said they used was totally flawed and the DoD had not used it at all on some of the bases which BTW those three bases were saved. Been around the AF for over 30 years and they have a different perspective of Rumsfeld then what you see on here. He was great at the beginning but he has let the suits take over at DoD and some really bad decisions have been made that have affected the AF and Navy flyers the most.

There are a lot of active duty that have spoken out against what has been happening at DoD under Rumsfeld these last two years. Before then I never heard a thing.

Cheney wouldn't step down because he's had disagreements with the President. For the good of the country he'd stick out the next two years.

Cheney could resign for health reasons

That would be very scary. Pelosi would be next in line until there was a replacement, and the Senate would have to confirm the replacement.

In light of the supposed outrage over "corruption" causing losses, is it ironic Cunningham's seat went to a Republican both in the special and yesterday?

Hunter's convictions (that led to the phone call) is precisely why I want to see him run in 08. Maybe get a cabinet position if he can't win.

Gates is another Bush-bot crony and has ties to Iran-Contra which could be a problem with confirmation.

It's true, what you say, about his caliber. There is a problem of time and attention, however. How much will he have if he is in front of Pelosi's gavel 8 hours a day, 5 days a week?

That's one argument. The other is his mastery of the job and the impossibility of getting anybody but a wimp or AlQaeda operative past Pelosi's treason requirements.

"in a war, it is impossible not to have casualties and collateral damage, does this mean the war is a failure and that it's leaders incompetent?"

That is clearly the fact here. Iraq has become the place where the terrorist groups and their sponsors have decided to make their stand in this war. It is a bloody and deadly, hard fight, and would be for anyone having responsibilities for it's execution. By getting rid of Rumsfeld, Bush has decided to play politics with men's lives, and our security. You can blame the democrats for forcing it, or Bush for caving in to them.

"Cheney's a legit conservative, it's not going to be fun. At least in the Congress they have the option of speaking out"

Vice President of the United States of America is still President of the Senate. Maybe Cheney should take up the gavel.

If I'm reading this thread correctly, I wonder what will happen to the President's ratings next time they are measured. I could put up with about anything from him and backed him to the hilt ... but canning Rummy the day after HE LOST the election ... that's what a "Dim" would do ... (is that a white flag I see flying over the white house?)
