Everyone had a good stiff drinkie? Here goes:
FoxNews reporting from the White House: White House spokesman Tony Snow reacted to the change in House control by allowing they're disappointed, but that it presents some intriguing opportunities, such as passing comprehensive immigration reform which failed in the previous Republican House."
Here in Nevada the libs were the ones screaming loudest about "illegal immigration" (properly called an INVASION) claiming that THEY would put a stop to it.
Too bad they lie every time their lips move.
Uh, yeah.
Thanks for catching that. ;)
Fair enough.
Yup, they sure sent that message, and the Republicans sure got that message!
Hope you stay-at-homos are happy with Speaker Pelosi and W working on the one issue they can agree on! THAT'll teach them Reapublicans, huh?!
Sarcasm filter is broken tonight.... :-/
"The American people have spoken and they're coming from a different place than me and I'm just going to have to adjust..."
Agreed. Last 3 elections I thought American voters had "come to their senses"...even if we weren't making the best decisions, at least we were in charge. Now the power is gone and the stupid voters have gained it back. We are in terrible shape.
I'm more worried than ever that the dims will drop the Patriot act, allow Al quada free reign and revert back to the days where they were in denial of terror. And, hey, I'm always thrilled to pay more taxes. Why the hell not? Let's have a surplus and kill the economy!
On a brighter note, even though I'm not a gay woman, I will be able marry either Mary or Joe. That alone will comfort me so much I'll be able to forget about my potential beheading.
Wha, who ME???? ;)
;-)
now they have a chance, put their feet to the fire.
If that sort of immigration reform indeed happens I will have voted Republican for the last time. I will become a hardcore 3rd party supporter.
Perhaps everyone else should consider the same.
Part of me wants to say that our Republic is f****d, but part of me wants to see Nancy Pelosi trying to ride heard on newly elected Democrats from conservative districts. There is a chance that she won't need to because she won't be the Speaker. It might be that some more serious minded Democrats actually want to hold onto power for more than two years; in which case, they'll keep her as far away from the gavel as possible. And I suppose that there's a really good chance that the whole of Washington will be paralyzed for the next two years; which really isn't that bad. They can't raise taxes or pass new regulations if they're dodging rabid moonbats who are demanding impeachment and nothing else. And what happens to their legion of Yugo-driving orcs if they can't deliver impeachment? Do they stay loyal? Or do they start eating their own like Rosie attacking a pot roast? I'm not trying to paint a pretty picture on a steaming pile, but this could get interesting.
I need a drink, while it's still legal and not against Shari'a law.
Who do you think is voting in Arizona now days? Mexico already owns the joint.
Hasn't this been going on for the past 20 years?
This isn't directed to you personally, but as for what can be done about this:
1. Stop supporting those politicians who support "reform". If they know you're going to choose between them and someone who's worse, they won't be forced to change.
2. Discredit those who support "reform". For instance, when a newspaper prints something false, write about it here or on a blog, and send the newspaper a note. Many people post biased articles here, but few bother to go the next step and provide the email addresses for the editor or ombudsman. And, do the same when major bloggers make incorrect statements on immigration. I do that a lot, but I don't see too many other people bothering to join in.
3. Edit Wikipedia entries for accuracy. Those entries appear near the top of search results, and many are biased or missing key facts.
4. Do the googlebombing which was recently discussed on blogs, but do it much smarter.
That means not just pandering to them on one issue, but going with the populists even when they are against a proposition loved by your ideological base. *Not* going with the other party, mind - I'm not talking about that. I am talking about taking positions that are not represented today by either party, because a portion of the ideologues controlling it do not agree - and even though most of the country does.
We have to face the fact that much of the country is more isolationist than the Republican hawks are. They aren't pacifists, they don't want McGovernites. They are patriots but they want Iraqis to fight for Iraq not Americans. They aren't communists, they don't want socialism. But they are not die hard free traders and they see nothing wrong with a higher minimum wage. They aren't multiculturalists and they aren't open borders types - they want illegal immigration stopped. Who represents these people?
They live in Iowa, they live in New Hampshire, they live in Arizona. They once voted Republican and half of them come from families who voted for democrats when they were like Truman and Kennedy, but don't like McGovern Mondale Dukakis Pelosi style liberalism. How hard is it to cater to them? They are not hard to satisfy, not compared to demanding ideologues with purity standards etc.
When you have a chance to fight a national election on an agenda you get to pick out of every possible issue under the sun, here is a hint. Don't deliberately screw them to cater to the other's party's base. It doesn't split that base, it just splits you off from that middle.
I'm right there with you. This is a deal breaker for me. I almost voted a 3rd party ticket this time, but gave the big "R" another go. If they bend over on this, I'm done.
We need to make our feelings loud and clear in DC.
That is what came to my mind.
