What Republicans need to learn from tonight...
11/07/06 | Philistone

The most important thing that Republicans should learn from tonight is that America is a representative democracy.

This does NOT mean that your congress critter shares ALL your beliefs, or that he is a perfect human being, but rather that, in general, he votes the way you want him to.

It's like hiring a lawyer. You may despise his personal life and his principles, but what is important is that he WINS YOUR CASE.

Democraps could care less about the morals of their elected officials as long as they win.

Republicans could learn a lesson here...

Join me in a drink. What other country is there to fight for?

I'm drinking. Freedonia?

And I want Republicans that fight for conservatism, not getting themselves the 2008 nomination.

Get a clue.

Conservatives lost tonight; big time.

I have learned that I am going to protect my family but not speaking out anymore in support of the current war effort.

Now the electorate's going to be looking at them to "do something," and they don't have a clue.

They'll try to impeach the President, but that will cause political instability that could send the stock market reeling and you know how Americans--many with 401K investments--will be really upset over this.

The day of Israel taking out Iran on its own with nuclear weapons could become reality within two years.

Except in Pennsylvania.

"Why is that?.."

Because many of the Founders had some knowledge of classical education, and knew the horrors of a true democracy ala some egregious examples from Ancient Greece.

The Democrats are winning because they ran as conservatives. The republicans are losing because they governed as liberals.

You nailed it.

1994 was a great year for Republicans in the house....Clinton made that victory possible for Republicans. If George H. Bush had a second term, I doubt if the Republicans would have had that great victory a dozen years ago.....Pelosi and company will be a great motivator for conservative voters in 2008.....just think of all the new material Rush, Sean Hannity, and the rest will have handed to them.

Yes they did. JD Hayworth is gone. :(

It's the first time I'm saying it but Im saying it now. It's not just the spending. It's Iraq. We should be fighting to win and NOT to satisfy Europe's concern about how we treat terrorists.

I've heard many republicans being interviewed who either didnt vote at all or voted for a democrat because of Iraq. Im a BIG supporter of the war in Iraq and NEVER want to see us cut and run. But we've got to untie the hands of our troops and let them kill the terrorists. NO MORE HOGIE SANDWICHES!

It isn't Mehlman, it's bad strategy by the folks supposedly defining the message. It was mush, they haven't held any lines on spending. Bush's completely ineptness at articulating a message caused this most off all. He's the #1, #2 and #3 reasons the war effort is not being supporting as it ought to be.

What we should have learnt, is that a two party system sucks! Big time. It's not much better than the one party system in Mexico (or until recently in Mexico.) A shift, such as we're seeing tonight, and we saw in 1994, is inevitable, and is not a shift to a set of clearly articulated ideas - the voters are in general thoughtless dumbies - it is merely to the other party, whatever that is. From Pepsi to Coke. Pity.

When Americans see Nancy Pelosi as speaker and all those liberals like Barney Frank, Conyers of Michigan, etc. as heads of Congressional committees for the next two years, I'd say election night in 2008 will be a very pleasant experience for the Republican party.

And, I say you have it all wrong. If we lose the House tonight I don't see us taking it back in 2008.

Not saying had any part in the loss but there are a lot of whiny Republicans that let victory slip from our grasp and we will all regret it.

Bush and Rove better wake up and start to figure out if they are conservatives or just wannabes otherwise 2008 is going to be even worse.
****

So, if they don't act like conservatives, the conservatives will respond by electing liberals?!

The current Republican leadership has a lot of faults, but handing things to the Dems, who have even more faults, is not the answer.

It's ironic that the Republicans in the House, the one body that stood against amnesty for illegal alien invaders and was arguably the most conservative part of government, is the body that appears to be smacked the hardest tonight.

The lesson Congress and presidential aspirants will learn from this: Govern like liberals. Spend more. Tax cuts don't matter. Give amnesty to illegal invaders. Surrender to terrorists who kill a shocking two soldiers per day. Appoint likeable judges who have no strong beliefs.

Federal government expenditures have increased 56% since 2000 under Republican control of both the White House and Congress.
