If Fox has dumped the exit polls, how can they call it for Cardin? I just don't get it. I imagine that many black voters would not admit to voting for a pubbie. I'm holding out hope for a surprise reversal on that race (seems like there is always at least one every election night).

This feels like a wave.

Some wave... where Demos are winning by running as conservatives... where Demos are winning back seats in formerly Demo districts. Where Demos who claim to be gun-loving, God-fearing, fiscal conservatives will make the difference for the Dems.

Yup, they may take the House and maybe even the Senate. What did they run on (other than "cut and run" from Iraq)? What will they do between now and 2008 in Congress other than bring their kook leaders into power? When 2008 voters see that their taxes are being raised and spending is going up and the war on terror is being lost because of Democrat take over in Congress, which way will the wind be blowing then?

Even if we lose both houses of Congress, this is not the end of the world. Unless this ends up being 40+ house seats and >6 Senate seats, this is no big "wave". Although you can count on Chris Matthews declaring this a "wipeout". Delusional as always.

This should not be trusted....it is based on exit polls. Wait for the hard numbers.

How, HOW is this responsible reporting?

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

They look at trends in key precincts. Steel would have had to do better in these precincts to offset Cardin in his strong areas. The wild card here however is if Steel were to do significantly better in Cardin precincts. That remains to be seen. Remember 2000 got called for Gore and then Changed to Bush later in the night and ended up a 584 vote squeaker.

Michael Steele Republican 35,779 (52%)
Ben Cardin Democrat 31,876 (46%)
Kevin Zeese Green 1,229 (2%)

From Fox news just now. How can they say Cardin has won?

It does appear that the call is based on the exit poll. The exit poll shows Steele breaking even among men, but down by 20 point (60 to 40) among women. This would imply something like a 10 point win for Cardin. Outside the margin of error.

HOWEVER ... is it outside the margin of bias?

A gender gap of 20 points is WAY BIG. In comparison, the Bush-Kerry gender gap in 2004 was 14 points. I suspect something's wrong with the sample.

This is one of those calls that the media may wind up reversing.

There are few states where the Republican areas are so Republican and the Democratic areas are so Democrat, as Maryland. From a few districts and comparison to past races you can pretty easily extrapolate a winner fairly accurately.

According to CNN, the counties in the eastern and western ends of the state have 0 precincts reporting.

These calls are bunk.

That is good news. Steele and Ehrlich are doing well in democratic areas. These are the votes that are actually being counted, not projections.

Which is precisely why this call is going to be reversed.

The county by county results don't add up.

[Total BS ... 1% reporting !

few thousand votes tallied ...]

I have sent Fox some e-mail asking them to explain how they can call a race against the leading candidate, with 1% reporting, 150,000 absentee ballots to count and only a few thousand total votes.

Somebody please explain this to me. This whole house is very confused!
