"The new leaders (no way in hell Hasert keeps his job) are going to be more conservative, tougher, and more competent."

That would be nice but see this -----------------------------------------------------------------> this is me waaaay over here NOT holding my breath.

Color me underwhelmed at such a prospect right now.

Oh please Repubs make me eat crow on this one!

I don't know what the Montana recount rules are. By my math, a 1200 vote win would likely be about 0.3% of the total vote (assuming 414,000 votes cast).

Lost in this crummy night for the GOP is the apparent silver lining of at least 5 more states passing pro-traditional marriage amendments. I checked WI, VA, SC, CO, SD and TN results, and all passed. The only surprise was that SD was fairly close, I think 52-48. What gives there?

Also I think Arizona and maybe two other states had marriage amendments up, my guess is they passed but I haven't seen any confirmation yet. Results:

SD

CO

I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

We can start arguing about McCain in 2008.

No new votes have come in since the last projection. Burns is still on track to win by about 1,275 votes, using linear extrapolation of the counties partially in and the 2000 numbers for Meagher (which is fully out).

Only letting portions of the TV news filter into my hearing; otherwise, it makes me too sick.

Our TX Republican governor was re-elected, from a field of 4 contenders. So, how does our local news team announce that?

"Over 60% of the state told Gov. Perry they don't want him."

You'd think Gov. Hunk would be slinking around the capital gathering his belongings and packing his U-Haul to leave before dawn, the way they spin it!

I hope you're right about that because I've run into quite a number of people on FR who support mass deportations, or at least say they do on this forum. I really think the biggest problem for us in this election was the lack of concrete progress in getting our troops out of Iraq and turning the security situaton over to the Iraqis. Maybe this election will do some good by sending the Iraqis the message that we can't stay there forever and they have to start doing more to move Iraq beyond this low intensity civil war over there. That may be the silver lining here that helps us in 2008.

Throw in the fact that he is also mentally unbalanced!

Well that may be an advantage against Hillary.

Why, thank you very much. It's the way I feel about what happened tonight. You'd be right in your guess; I'm 22.

Rummy must stay and finish the restructuring the military. Anybody else will "become" a "liability" as soon as he becomes SecDef, Dems/media will see to that. Rummy can handle them best, that's why they want him out. Spineless Republicans who don't like confrontations with Dems/media are always ready to throw someone overboard as sacrificial lamb - never works, except getting them some face time on TV.

"Very few conservatives actually support mass roundups of illegals."

Yes I have tried to get this across to people. If the numbers can be believed we supposedly deport over 1 million people a year, So if we stop people form coming in the we should be able to keep up the current efforts and reduce or illegals number by half or more in 5 years without changing much in the way of deportations. But everyone sez "get em out now, blah blah blah!

Wasn't Clinton elected the first time with only 42% of the vote?

That didn't stop him from claiming a mandate even though 58% of the people voted against him.

And then they elect anti-marriage Democrats!

If we can get Iraq into decent shape by 2008, then I think McCain or Romney will beat Hillary by at least 51-48. Hillary is a lot like Kerry. She speaks fairly well but she carries a ton of baggage.

If I was an aide to rummy right now I would get out my resume and update it.

I hate to say this but if that's the case he's not going to pull it off.

I'm now projecting Burns to lose by 1583 votes.

Yeah, 43%. Guess we're lucky Ross Perot didn't want to be governor and that we don't have a Texas Electoral College!
