Look I dont like moderates myself but thats why the politics is heading.

How many Republicans make any effort to articulate a conservative message? Pushing "Democrat Lite" as a message is like drinking seawater because you're thirsty. You may die of thirst if you don't drink it, but you'll be no less likely if you do.

Conservatism + alliance with Libertarians + moderates is needed. While Conservatives easily win in the south, even in the once solid west they are finding it tough. Demographics is changing a lot of things, Republicans have to get pragmatic.

Three names have the recognition and it's not McCain. He would be a disaster.

You'll vote for McCain because McCain can stop a total GOP meltdown in 2008

I don't know .. maybe I might want to teach some a lesson this time

And gee ... Hellery Clinton would be a heck of a lesson to learn too

Maybe I'll change my mind later .. who knows

>>If McCain really believes that, then perhaps there is hope for him yet. Maybe the hit upside the head tonight woke him up.

We will see.<<

Agreed. But you could tell he was trying so hard to present a different side - what he can do for one interview isn't always what he can/will do in the future. Nonetheless its a good quote and something the congress would do well to agree on.

It's funny. In 2000, 2002, and 2004 I was physically ill waiting for the results. This time it didn't really bother me.

I think the reason why is as a historian, I've been expecting this for two years now. However, it was not as much of a thumping as I expected.

We could have done a lot of things that would have minimized the damage (better candidates in certain House and Senate races for example) but I already expected to lose the HoR and the Senate would be 1 vote either way.

I have been saying that for years on FR - free trade, offshoring - are costing the Rs votes.

It's not those things "themselves". But the fact that it is so easy to give the impression that the Republicans "don't care"...

See also my vanities on the subject here, here, and here.

We are still paying for the Carter presidency and the Clinton presidency... so, no I don't think we can say we survived it, because were it not for those two we might now even be in Iraq right now.

>>This from a man who doesn't even listen to the people of his home state regarding immigration! The 2008 campaign has begun.

I will never vote for McCain. NEVER.<<

He's not in my state and I'm not voting for him for President so I'm content to hope that he has seen some light -not holding my breath...

The undeniable reality is shady slimy politics won this election, while principled politicians lost. Liberalism is a mental disorder and a addiction, you may die if you dont enough doses of the Liberal drug, thats what the dumbed down Americans getting their news from the MSM have been fed upon.
