Yep many Independents are socially liberal. Independents by definition like to think they are above this partisan crap. So when Republicans are made to look like goofballs by whatever means then they are less inclined to go to the trouble to vote for them. The ones that do vote in this election probably leaned left anyway. So I agree with your assessment.

"lost Foley seat..."

Data on that? Last I heard (incl. Jim Geraghty) that is still in play.

Darn...they are reporting that the St. Louis and Kansas City precincts have yet to start reporting in Missouri - Talent's lead might not hold.

And the Republicans can't win without the Libertarian wing of the party. Somehow we need to figure out how to compromise, but the big-government social right won't consider bending even a little.

As a social conservative AND a libertarian, that is complete nonsense. There IS no big-government social right. There are just big-government politicians (like the Pres) that also happen to pander to the social right.

I wonder where Conservative Goddess and Badray are; they should be here to relish this moment.......after all, they worked long and hard to accomplish this!

That is so sad, especially at a time when we need every seat we can get in the Senate. And to replace Santorum with a morally bankrupt lackey like Casey Jr (apple not of the same tree as his father)??

They are conspicuous by their absence.

True. But the sheeple apparently are stupid enough to think the Democrats are going to handle things better.

I take great unmbrage at many things the Republicans have done or failed to do, illegal immigration and failure to take strong leadership of congress when they had the chance are chief among them.

This economy is steaming along, and Democrats will do their best to muck that up. Once that happens, they will blame it on Bush somehow and the people, like trained seals, will sit up and slap their flippers together and swallow everything the MSM is dishing out.

AAARRRGGGHHH!!! :-)

Pederson has run a very nasty, dishonest campaign against Kyl here in Arizona.

You think one dime will be pulled? Are you new to this game? You do know this is a game, right? We're the spectators, this is the diversion, and the Ruling Elite wins every time.

It's the second off-year election of a two term prez. We expected to lose seats. But does anyone know what turnouts have been like? Because I'm not going to get too excited about trends if most folks stayed home.

Go back and read the previous post -- he specifically said "on our soil."

And if you want to count terrorist attacks on military targets, please add up all the IEDs that have been detonated in Iraq over the last 3+ years and put them in the "post-9/11 terrorist attacks" column, too.

Exactly. I'm afraid the days of a 'true conservative' ever having a chance at the national level are over. Every time Dems are in control, we take two steps toward socialism. And every time Pubs are in control, we take one step back. We will never regain what we had. Will we get some? Yep. But to be Joey blue skies about appealing to the base, redefining the party, etc. is wishful thinking.

Maybe. But realize that things happen that are unexpected. America forgets things easily and quickly. But Al-Qaeda is still out there and they will make themselves known. Especially as the Democrats force us backward. Al-Qaeda will be back and Americans can only get punched in the face so many times before they stop believing that we can go back to Sept. 10.

I guess I don't understand it. I'm in Bexar County and the Dems are showing up in the 'special election.' Don't know why it would be different in the 22nd.
