Warning: What to Expect
Self | 11/7/06 | LS

All right, folks. Guess I have to do it again around here and hand out the chill pills.

1) It is absolutely clear to me that we have won this. We will keep the Senate, and I'm 90% sure we keep the House. We'll probably gain a seat, maybe two in the Senate.

2) I know this from the turnout numbers, just as I did in 2004. The fact is, forget Indies. They don't vote in high numbers. It's all about the two parties, and who gets out their base.

We have done that today beyond my wildest expectations. The info we have from the Hotline on turnout is overwhelming, and in virtually every key state, we have exceeded Dem turnout by 2, 3, 4, or 6%.

As I predicted, we are seeing a Dem UNDERVOTE. They are underperforming, esp. in key states such as OH. However, they are underperforming far worse than even I dreamed. We are looking at 20% in Cuyahoga County! Brown and Strickland couldn't get elected dog catcher with that level of support.

SO HERE IS WHAT TO EXPECT: THE MEDIA IDIOTS HAVE THEIR TEMPLATES. THEY WILL BE VERY SLOW TO COME AROUND. IT WILL BE A LONG NIGHT, BECAUSE THEY WON'T BELIEVE THEIR EYES.

They may even "call" a few House races, maybe a Senate race, based on some ridiculously low "exit poll" and have to recant later. Be patient. The turnout numbers suggest we absolutely cannot lose.

but it's truly a dark night

..don't get down, pal--

the war is not over...

The war is over.
We lost.
We lost for the troops.
Bring 'em home and station them on our boarders, for we're gonna need it.
The terrorists are going to be after us, now. Big time. And, with the Dems in Charge and Bush indicted for War Crimes at the Hague through the instigation of the Dems ... we'll ... it may be our own fire arms (soon to be illegal) that will save our lives

That would be the apparent case. Trying to figure this one out will be a chore.

It makes absolutely no sense. If you are genuinely upset with the Republican candidate, you attempt to unseat him in the primary (see: Joe Lieberman, Pat Toomey). One was successful and one was not. The point is, you end up voting for the lesser of two evils. It might be a trite phrase, but it's true.

Suppose Republicans turned out en masse - which we seem to know - to vote for Democrats. What kind of sense would that make? It would make none at all. None. If you are upset, you don't make things significantly worse on yourself as a way to punish your candidate. Psychologically, your candidates might run even further left because you voted that way - candidates run based on what they think the people want.

Two excellent points. However, Pelosi will havethose psudo-conservative Dems taken out to the ole wood shed as soon as they get to DC.

"Hang in...exit polls are being used. This is NOT over."

What do you mean? I am going through the pain of our loss of the House and Senate and now it isn't over? Please help me understand!!

Still, what could the GOP have done to POSSIBLY turn out more R voters?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Easy answer. Put the RINOs in the back seat. The post election analysis will likely show that neo cons stayed home or voted 3rd party because of disatisfaction with a compromised conservative agenda.

Many predicted this would happen, and it may be that they were right.

This also means that McCain,Spector and Hastert will now become personna non grata within the Republican party.

It's unconscionable for any candidate to concede before, at least, all the votes are in.

Blackwell was the unconscionable candidate.

Unfortunately, the great Repub machine got the people to the polls but then they voted Democrat.

Sickening.

If we lose the House, the troops WILL be brought home.

Iraq will then be a DEM mess and another Nam; which will be a self fulfilling prophecy.

Well, the people over at NRO say a LOT of it was Iraq. So screw it. Let's have Bush pull the troops out, let there be an incredible bloodbath, and then we'll just sit and wait for the next airliners to fly into the Sears Tower.

If you look @ my home district, TX-17, it is going 66-33 Rat. In 2004 it went 70-30 for Bush.

The Democrat (incumbent) runs as a "conservative" Democrat and wins a huge number of votes from people who normally vote Republican.

___

Oh I know. Pelosi's shrill voice and far left politics will doom the rats in 2008.
They always misread the public.
Right now Nancy Pelosi is not thinking, "Gee, I better go easy, a lot of these races where won on a moderate to conservative agenda."
Nope. She will go full steam ahead and attack the president and call for all kinds of left wing kooky legislation.

The thing you seem to be missing in your analysis is as clear as day to me, unfortunately. You're being befuddled by turnout, and others are befuddled by the success of certain initiatives.

The simple fact is this:

Most Americans want us out of Iraq.

Not THIS American, but like it or not, that seems to be the case. And we should be very worried because that fact is ALL the Democrats had on their side. They have HIDDEN their agenda and have become the de facto alternative simply because they AREN'T George Bush's party.

That is the simple fact I am getting from an election that takes place in a time of economic prosperity, and a war dragging on (as we have been warned it would). Republican voters aren't "punishing" anyone to "send a message" to be more conservative--you and I might want that message sent, but we are not the average American voter, who doesn't see this as so clear cut.

We have to start grappling with the most important simple fact in today's politics, and it's not surprisingly about the most important foreign policy and defense situation we're facing. Sorry, it's NOT illegal immigration. It's NOT abortion. It's NOT taxes. It's NOY the economy.

The simple fact is this:

Most Americans want us out of Iraq.
