As national Democrats hang bunting and prepare for what they hope will be a joyous victory celebration in Washington tonight, John F. Kerry will be back in Massachusetts, quietly standing behind his state's gubernatorial nominee.
Kerry's treks around the country were supposed to help erase bad memories of 2004 -- convincing Democrats that Kerry was a dogged worker and belonged among the party's top contenders for 2008.
Instead, the campaign ended with the senator on the sidelines, grounded like a high-schooler caught misbehaving in class during the week before the prom.
His "botched joke" ...gave the Republicans ammunition at a time when they were running out of it.
He then either misjudged the situation or let his anger get the better of him: By choosing to lash out at the Republican scandal machine rather than quietly apologize, he guaranteed that the story would stay in the news.
Now, Kerry has to hope that the Democrats get a big enough victory to wash away any recriminations.
But if the election returns fail to meet the party's skyhigh expectations, Kerry would be among the biggest goats...
His decision to lead the libuster against Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. earlier this year had won him liberal support.
the longstanding perception that Kerry has done a poor job of building a staff.
Some big-name Democrats, including Hillary Clinton and Edward M. Kennedy, are known for their ability to attract the party's top writers and thinkers; Kerry is not.
And the fact that Kerry veered from the text in a way that made a bad speech worse is no surprise, either; in 2004, reporters with advance copies of Kerry's speeches would chuckle over how he added unnecessary words and stepped on his applause lines.

Right...typical liberal...blame the staff.

He's toast!.....FRENCH TOAST!...........
His fate is sealed, which is kind of too bad... WE NEED HIM !
The scandal machine? Is that like the Rove Weather Machine?
Kerry's fate...should be hanging next to Saddam.
What a lame-brained effort already to rehabilitate Kerry!
Jon Carry is toast whether the dems win or not. He's an idiot with a tin ear, he proved it in the 2004 election, and he erased all doubt last week.
Kerry's fate depends upon the whims of Mother Teresa....and the contents of his FBI file and 201 file (both of which have been seen by his main adversary).
I remember thinking the same thing (and even did many in the MSM) that Bill Clinton's Presidential run was over when Gennifer Flowers claimed a 12 year affair with him. He was able to lie his way out of that one.
As H.L. Mencken so eloquently stated, "No one has ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the American people".
Marking this for deluded media story of the day.
libuster? They do have editors don't they?
The simple explanation for F'n's inability to attract top talent is that he's a cheapskate. This is not a slam...its been mentioned unhappily by his fellow Donks in this year's campaigns. In a party known to share the wealth, this latest debacle will probably sideline him for good.

I think their party symbol applies much better.
People do tend to have short term (and sometimes long term) memory loss when it comes to the misdeeds of politicians. The thing with Kerry is, just about the time you might have forgotten what a putz he is, he reminds you all over again.
As the old cliche' goes,
"A democrat's compassion is only limited by the size of YOUR wallet"!
Stick a fork in Kerry. HE's DONE
That was my thought as soon as I heard him say it. I then doubted my judgment, knowing how the media can overlook the transgression of any Democrat. Then, bless his heart, Kerry delivered again. In addition to having implied the troops were morons, he implied every body else was a moron for having misinterpreted him. Now, having even managed to offend liberals, his days on the national stage are over.
