VOTERS ARE BY now accustomed to automated political-campaign calls, but many were stunned by one that hit households in Montgomery County and Northeast Philadelphia over the weekend.
The recorded voice was that of a distraught, tearful woman.
"I had an abortion performed on me," the woman said in a shaky voice, adding that she wanted to tell "the truth about Allyson Schwartz."
"The truth is that 18 lawsuits have been filed against Miss Allyson Schwartz's clinic, including assault, battery, negligence, perforated bowels and uteruses," the woman said, "and even abortions performed without consent of her patients."
The woman finished by asking voters to "think about her patients before you cast the ballot."
The call was paid for by Republican congressional candidate Raj Peter Bhakta, who is running against U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz.
A casual listener might think that Schwartz is a physician and that the anonymous woman had an abortion against her will.
Schwartz isn't a physician, but 18 years ago she was director of the Elizabeth Blackwell Clinic, which Schwartz co-founded in 1975 and which performed abortions and other services.
Who exactly is the woman in the call? Bhakta described her as "a woman who came into the campaign who wanted the truth to be known."
Bhakta said he wouldn't reveal her identity, and wouldn't say whether she'd ever been treated at the Blackwell clinic.
"The facts in the call are true," Bhakta said.
Schwartz left the clinic in 1988, and it closed in 2002.
Like any other health facility that treats tens of thousands of patients, it was subjected to lawsuits, and the cases Bhakta mentioned were fodder in Schwartz's 2004 race.
But Maureen Messing of Northeast Philadelphia said this robo-call infuriated her.
"When I first picked up the phone, I heard this crying woman, and I thought a friend or loved one was in trouble," Messing said. "And I thought: What if my 15-year-old daughter or my granddaughter - she's 7 - picked up the phone and heard this?"
Bhakta said yesterday that he stood by the call and would not apologize for its emotional tone.
"There's no elegant way, no soft way to convey the facts of the matter," Bhakta said. "People have a right to know about the lawsuits alleging assault, battery, and abortions performed without permission."
Bhakta was unable to say whether any of the allegations that he said had been contained in the suits were substantiated.
Bhakta, a veteran of Donald Trump's "Apprentice 2" reality-TV show, has tried throughout the campaign to compensate for a lack of funding and name recognition with colorful publicity stunts.
Schwartz declined to comment on the phone call, but her campaign manager, Daniel McElhatton, called it "gutter politics at its absolute worst," adding that Bhakta "has no decency and no shame."
Interesting...
Her mother fled Austria to escape the Holocaust, and her husband's a cardiologist.
She might learn about the horrors of abortion? I dunno....just a guess.
She's "gutter politics" personified ~ your ordinary abortionist knows better than to run for office ~ this woman is not only evil she's stupid.

Too bad about Schwartz/ The Truth hurts. She is evil.

Schwartz doesn't even live in the district.
I didn't know that either. In Bucks County, a slew of red signs showed up over the weekend saying Republicans for... all the dem candidates. It's really deceptive. It reads as though Republicans are supporting the Dem candidates. I talked to a Republican committeeman at the polls this morning and he said that Republican signs were being removed as soon as they were placed. It's been a real problem.
Good for him. Even if he doesn't win, at least it may open the eyes and ears of some people as to the horrors that lurk beyond the Pro-Choice slogans bandied about.
We got two of these calls. Raj will be getting my vote. I'd never heard about the connection with the Elizabeth Blackwell Clinic, but I wouldn't have voted for Schwartz in any case. She's just a typical Dem and doesn't represent my views or priorities one iota.
Isn't this the guy who also took dancing elephants across the
Rio Grande with Mariachi Bands in tow to demonstrate how
open the borders are?
Same guy. He's got guts. As far as the lefty matron that was offended by the anti-abortion message -- she was a guaranteed vote for abortion entrepreneur Schwartz anyway.
Another poster said her mother fled the Holocaust. Well, daughter joined it.
Abortion is the only thing that Democrats really seem to believe in.
d.o.l.
Criminal Number 18F
I really appreciated Raj on the show. Donald usually gets firing right but I think he made a mistake when he fired Raj because Raj was exhibiting loyalty and honesty.
what does your name mean?
list??? not sure
