Staying home? Voting? Either way, look at this picture

Posted on 11/06/2006 8:09:34 PM PST by Mr. Silverback

For those who'll have trouble reading the fine print, I'll summarize. This is Chief Master Sergeant John Gebhardt, and the girl he's holding is the only survivor of a family methodically executed by terrorists in Iraq. They shot her in the head, too.

If the Dems win tomorrow...well, I'll let Freeper El Gato tell ya, as he put it in this thread:

Cut and run Kerry, and his buddy Bug Out Murtha would leave this little girl to the tender mercies of the human garbage that killed her family.

BTW, a USAF CMSgt is very high ranking NCO (E9). Equivalent to Army SgtMajor, Navy Master Chief Petty Officer, Marine Master Gunnery Sgt. It's a sure bet that he has plenty of other things to do and many responsibilities. But still he gives up his valuable sack time to calm this little girl, allowing her to get the rest she needs to speed her recovery.

Quite frankly, I think the Rats have given us millions of reasons to vote GOP this election, and there are a mess of positive reasons to vote for this House caucus, such as their fight against the McCain Amnesty Plus bill. But this one reason is enough. Pelosi and Reid will abandon the two people in this photo, leaving one to Al Qaeda and the other dazed on the floor after they pull the rug out for the second time in a little over 30 years. They will let John Murtha and John Kerry decide how this all ends. But we can stop them.

This one's a must win, ladies and gentlemen. It's broken glass time. Git R Done!

I voted here in Freeport. My precinct is one of the sleepiest in the county, but tends to vote heavily conservative. Turnout was very heavy. There wasn't a line, but I was voter 50 and the staff there told me that was a lot of voters for 9am in any election, much less a mid-term.

President Calvin Coolidge, known in his time as "Silent Cal" for his reluctance to speak publicly, nevertheless spoke volumes when it came to one topic: the duty of Americans to vote. In 1926, he said:

It is not in violence and crime that our greatest danger lies. These evils are so perfectly apparent that they very quickly arouse the moral power of the people for their suppression. A far more serious danger lurks in the shirking of those responsibilities of citizenship, where the evil may not be so noticeable but is more insidious and likely to be more devastating.

We live in a republic. A vital principle of that form of government is representation. More and more, as our population increases, it becomes necessary for the people to express their will through their duly chosen delegates. If we are to maintain the principle that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, if we are to have any measure of self-government, if the voice of the people is to rule, if representatives are truly to reflect the popular will, it is altogether necessary that in each election there should be a fairly full participation by all the qualified voters.

Eighty years later, getting everyone to take their duty to vote seriously is still the biggest issue of the hour — and it is uppermost in the minds of Christian and conservative leaders.

GOTV!

May I ask what boats you were in, particularly which boat (or boats) you were COB of?

I put in 17 years in the surface navy starting with the SeaBees, a tour in country VietNam, and ships ranging in size from gunboats to carriers. I hate crowds, so I put in for submarine duty as an E-8. I served on the USS Benjamin Franklin, SSBN640 (Gold). My next boat was PCU Topeka, SSN754. I was then COB on the USS Philadelphia, SSN690. I'm kind of an oddball choice for a COB (an ex skimmer and a supply type), but I enjoyed it.

As much as I love those hard-charging Devil Dogs in the USMC, I get to claim the Chief for my beloved United States Air Force.

You may find the Chief's thoughts at the following article, meant for his fellow Zoomies and Marines alike, to be of some interest.

Prepare now, your life depends on it

My campaign team was driven in by the rain. We'll make sure we all have waterproof boots for 2008, just in case.

Very good. But bring along an umbrella, too, so that you can help escort voters into the polls in the event of a downpour.

As, for instance, in Indiana. Polls open until 6 PM, and I'm just now sneaking in a quick lunch and some FReeping between cloudbursts.

I think that would fall afoul of the "No electioneering inside the red line" rule.
