The Marine Corps Museum WILL be officially dedicated this coming weekend.

Friday, Nov. 10, 2:00 PM: Museum Dedication (Tickets were required before now) Afterwards, the Museum will be open for a tour.
Saturday, Nov. 11, 5:00 PM: Memorial Park Dedication. Tickets are NOT required but you need to be at either the Pentagon North Parking Lot off Highway 27 in Arlington, VA OR the Stafford County Airport Parking Lot off I-95 in Fredericksburg, VA. You must be at these areas no later than 4:00 PM
Sat. Nov. 11 and Sunday, Nov. 12: The Museum will be open to visitors but my papers do not show a time. Please check the contacts below.
Additional info can be obtained from Marine Heritage or hopefully by calling this number, 1-800-297-1421 from literature about the Museum.
There are two reasons for this thread.
First, if any FReepers are going to either event, maybe we can get together at the parking areas or at the site. [Mrs] Trooprally and I are only going to the Friday event but will pass along info to FReepers going to the other events. Freepmail us and we'll put pass your name to others going the other days.
Second, if you attend any of the weekend's events, this thread can be a place to post your pictures for all to view.
See Trooprally's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Thread with info on the engraved bricks and Leadpenny's Marine Museum Advances Thread with pictures of the construction.
Thanks for the pics. It was a proud day for all Marines.
Thanks for the ping and thanks for attending the dedication, Mr. and Mrs. Troooprally! Wish I could have joined you.
Warrior Nurse and Chieftain: you have got to see these pics and read Mr. & Mrs. Trooprally's account of the event!
OoohRaaah!
thanks for the pics. since I'm retired now, I will have to plan a trip soon to see it for myself.
I was part of a ceremonial detail for a while and wore similar period pieces in a few parades. very authentic (including being made of layers of thick wool!). twas fun wearing one of those and holding a period flag on a 12-foot staff in a windstorm.
NOW I know why it took 45 minutes to get past Quantico Friday night!
Happy Birthday Marines! I honor and thank you for your service.
Marine Corps Museum Dedication pictures from Trooprally!
Terrific photos -- thanks for being there and sharing it with the rest of us!
Then today we went back with our Young Marines - the place is FABULOUS! We even met some real Navajo Code Talkers. I bought a book about their history in the gift shop and had them autograph it. The Code Talkers were accompanying the Castle Rock Young Marines - who fundraised for the trip.

kewel!!
MUDPUPPY - Great inside pics, and of the Museum yet. Must have been nice taking pics with no one in your way or bumping into you. :-))
I was hoping we would get more pics, Thanks. We actually lost about half of our pics due to computer problems. But we plan to go back real soon with our daughter, husband (both Marines) and their kids.

We were playing nice. Too much security and Secret Service people around.
I think the Marines just wanted to piss off the I-95 drivers some more since we closed their precious HOV lanes all day. Can you imagine driving on I-95 and suddenly hearing the booms!
[Mr] T
I imagine that hot weather was worst than a windstorm. Can't imagine thick wool on a hot day when you thought that the weather was going to be cool. And Thanks to you for doing the ceremonial detail.
[Mr] T
yes, we'll be going back. You have to soak it in.
We need to spend the day - and have lunch at Tun Tavern.
The volunteers there are phenominal! Most are former / retired Marines. I got choked up as the one volunteer was telling me how a Chosin survivor went through the Korean exhibit 3 times - then sat down and said "You got it right!. I was right there on that ridge - it was just like that.".
I'd spend all day as a glob of emotion if I worked there.
It really hits your heart.
Even our Young Marines enjoyed and were impressed with everything.
We're so blessed to have this in our backyard!
OOH-Rah!! Semper Fi!
MP - Do you or hubby know if some of the static display vehicles will be there as a permanent display?
More pics - from MudPuppy!
I'm thinking of going down next weekend...
I stayed away this weekend, because I loathe crowds. Any FReepers want to get together?
no - the outside display is already dismantled. All the organizations were supposed to get their gear out by Friday night. The outside structure has already started coming down also.
There are vehicles, tanks, aircraft in the Museum with more to come.
