COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Reuters) - Disgraced U.S. evangelist Ted Haggard, a vocal opponent of gay marriage, said on Sunday that he was guilty of "sexual immorality" and that he had long battled with a "repulsive" side of his life.

"I am guilty of sexual immorality, I am a deceiver and a liar. There is a part of my life that is so repulsive and dark and I've been warring against it my entire adult life", Haggard said in a letter that was read to his New Life Church in Colorado Springs by a church overseer.

I'm sure this has been asked several times, but who is this guy?? I'm a Christian and I've never heard of the him. Seems to be getting a whole lot of national coverage when its basically an internal church issue.

I was wondering the same thing last week when I was hearing ABC Radio News lead off with it at the top of every hour in breathless, excited tones.

From the lowliest surf to the grandest kings, we are human and will sin. Anyone grounded in faith understands. It's only the godless liberals who don't understand and who see some advantage here.

All of us have sinned in one way or another. The difference here is, men of the cloth are supposed to be leaders and show by example what being a Christian is all about. When people like Haggard, Swaggart and Jim and Tammy Bakker fail in their examples, it demoralizes those who believed in them and gives yet more ammunition to Christian-haters.

If you can't keep your own house in order, you have no business being a religious leader.

Pray for his wife and children. They are the victims of this sick and vile man.

The Democrats have no room to critisize. They are such hypocrytes. They are the party of the immoral. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

I agree with you, no legs to this and no legs to the saddam story. Maybe the election is just to close now for all these useless attempts to change anything.

"From the lowliest surf to the grandest kings, we are human and will sin."

Well, I don't use the word "sin." But you're right. On the other hand, there are misbehaviors and misbehaviors. It's particularly egregious when someone like this man, who vaunted himself up as a leader against things like homosexuality does the very thing he's preaching against.

Most ministers don't do this. Yes, they may be prideful or drink too much, or take advantage of their congregation to become rich and powerful. But they don't do what they're preaching against.

Haggard is a false minister. He led his flock down one path while he was on a different path. That sort of dishonesty is the worst kind of hypocrisy.

He deserves the disgust of those who followed him down the path he was not following. They needn't change their views, but they must be looking in a different way at how they blindly followed a charlatan.

It's worth thinking about. I've known many pastors, priests, and ministers in my life. Almost all were good men who believed what they taught, and tried very hard to lead the life they were asking of others. Did they make mistakes? Sure...but not like this creep.

This is why gays don't belong in the military.

Or the clergy.

"

As are the 11,000 members of his congregation.

Another cheap huckster in a big box loses his fleecing the flock permit. These guys are tiresome.

I have to admit that when this story hit the papers last week, my first thought wasn't "I wonder who this guy's buggering" but rather "I wonder how big his house is." I bet he wasn't driving a Kia when he got hit with that ambush TV camera attack a few days ago, either.

Yeah, how does the MSM get to thinking this'll have an impact on the election? Smells like desparate to me.

The media is so desperate, they are questioning how every single little thing will affect the election. They are absolutely chomping at the bit today in their last ditch effort to supress the Republican turnout.

This is why I don't go to church. God and I have our relationship but I don't trust "men of the cloth". Quick to tell you how to live.

Very true. This mortal man stepped down from his position when the accusation was leveled. Their governance body removed him from his position. Yet he has not been excommunicated. For some Christians believe that the Grace and atonement extend to Lucifer himself.

Not my place to criticize this church.

Sure you're not thinking about Swaggart? I don't remember another Haggart before this one.

I had never heard of him, either. The Lame Stream Media and the DUmmies are trying to tie him to Bush. Its amazing at the gay bashing coming from a bunch of gays in DU and the Democrat Party, the party FOR gay marriage.

Or more fitting in this case, those without sin should cast the first stone.
