CONTACT: Brendan Daly/Jennifer Crider 202-226-7616 Pelosi Statement on Saddam Hussein Verdict
Washington, D.C. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today after former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was convicted in an Iraqi court of crimes against humanity:
The Iraqi people are to be commended for bringing Saddam to justice in an Iraqi court. I commend our brave American troops in Iraq as well, for the trial could not have taken place without the security and logistical support they provided.
Unfortunately, the verdict is a solitary incident in a country wracked by sectarian violence and instability. Saddams conviction and sentencing for the crimes he committed against his own people in the 1980s were expected. It remains to be seen whether the results of the trial will have any effect in ending the civil war that now engulfs Iraq.
Nearly three years after Saddams capture, the U.S. Central Command said that Iraq is near chaos. That is clear evidence of the lack of progress in bringing security to Iraq and bringing American troops home.
The failure of President Bush and his Administration to have a plan in place before the war started to complete the mission successfully was a disservice to our troops, and has come at a huge cost in casualties suffered, the degradation of our militarys readiness and in hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars. The scope of that failure is not lessened by the results of Saddams trial.

Hey Nancy, nice of you to crawl out from your underground craphole.
Nobody cares what you have to say...
She couldn't comment on the verdit without slamming our troops and Bush and our policies could she/
Not really. Two others were also sentenced to hang today, and five others got extended prison sentences.
Pelosi YOU ARE AN A--HOLE!
Couldn't she just say justice has been done and wish good luck to the Iraqis? These are the jokers who claim ever real or imagined sleight towards them is playing politics.
What a bunch of jackasses.
yada blah bla
"Nearly three years after Saddams capture, the U.S. Central Command said that Iraq is near chaos. That is clear evidence of the lack of progress in bringing security to Iraq and bringing American troops home. "
She just had to say this, didn't she?!
If this kind of stuff doesn't motivate our base to get out and vote Republican and don't let the Dems take over, I don't know what will.
Good grief. The ultimate But Monkey.
How the h#ll does SHE know what plans were in place before the war commenced? First, all plans change once combat begins, and second, if she was told, they'd be leaked to the enemy as fast as you can say "New York Times."
Words fail me, Johnnie. And they shouldnt. If there is Divine Providence in this universe, she and her ilk must lose..
People like Pelosi are truly despicable.
Gosh Nansea is alive, no one had heard from her, she like carry, could not help but slamming our troops...God bless President Bush and our Troops..
How can we bring down her website?
I live in a small community called Praha, Tx. At this very moment we are having one of the largest military salutes in the country. We just had a WW2 flyover. I am still misty eyed.God bless our military and country. GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!
Hey Nancy........Bite Me !!!
Nancy, Nancy, nancy, the world does not revolve around your statements. I'll bet not even your grandchildren give a rats rear end what you think or say involving politics. The rest of us could use some relief. What is it about dems that run to the the microphone to be heard after every little incident.
Here, I will say it... THESE RATS ARE NOT PATRIOTIC!
They ARE SCUM! My apologies to real scum. These RATS are WORSE THAN SCUM!
