In an interview from her Capitol office, Pelosi characterized Tuesday's vote as a referendum on the war, shrugged off President Bush's efforts to make her liberalism a national issue, described the current GOP leadership as a "freak show," and expressed confidence about her party's prospects to pick up the 15 seats it needs for a majority.
"We're going to take back the country for the American people -- Democrats and Republicans alike -- because it has been held hostage by the radical right wing of the Republican Party," Pelosi said.
"This is a freak show, and it has to come to an end," Pelosi said. "This is about a Congress and White House whose purpose is to concentrate wealth into the top 1 percent of our country at the expense of the middle class."
If Democrats win, and Speaker Dennis Hastert is forced to hand the gavel to Pelosi, "I'll receive it, in my view, from the hands of special interests on behalf of America's future."

How dare this witch talks about passing her agenda when she put nothing in front of the voters?
This cannot happen!
Imagine the lengths the Democrats will go to in order to keep power once theyve got it?
Like the Fairness Doctrine, for example. Anybody think Pelosi and Reid wouldnt try that tactic to hinder conservative talk radio? Just recently it was one of the promises she made at a rally in San Francisco. The liberals cheered loudly on that one and will be going to the polls to vote on tuesday.
How about McCain-Feingold 2.0, with a particular focus on controlling unregulated speech on the Internet and blogs?
If you dont vote on election day, then who are you electing?
Pelosi's already talking about a "mandate" and the elction hasnt even happened yet.
Actually she can. And as early as tuesday.
It depends on us
I am old enough to be absolutely astounded that a member of the United States House of Representaives would even THINK of saying such a thing out loud because it was/is absolutely classless.
And she's saying she's going to bring civilty back to Washington?
Imagine the lengths the Democrats will go to in order to keep power once theyve got it?
It boggles my mind when I see people around here talking about "once the country sees how the Dems act, we'll get power back in no time."
That's completely asurd. If they get ONE INCH of power back, they'll change the Electoral College and we'll never see the GOP in power again in our lifetime, if ever.
Awwww....here we go again. They're already crying foul when they find out on Nov 8 or 9 they've come up short.
"Pelosi said. They will also apply pressure to disarm the militias, amend the Iraqi constitution and engage in diplomacy in the region."
OK, so she's going to apply all this pressure, but not until we pull out our troops, tossing out our advantage in any pressure tactics. What a genius. God save us from these idiots.
I agree. It's not as easy as that. Give them 2 to 4 years of power, by the end of that period they will have redefine far right to be a John Mcain and Hillary will be considered "center" and another GW Bush would be as unelectable as a Barry Goldwater would be.
Pelosi is going to be as effective as Madelaine Albright was with Kim Jong Il. See how N. Korea kept their promises.
One of the reasons why we had such a big turnout in 2002 was to avoid lawsuits from the left. The win was so big they had nothing to complain about. I hope we dont drop the ball this time.
We dont want another 2000 Fiasco with several members of both houses involved
hmmm...has face-lift Barbie ever heard of the veto??...this witch is delusional.
Communism kills.
Something people should keep in mind when heading to the polls.
Hey stretch! Who are the freaks?
They've already succeeded in coloring all of us as far right wing.
I don't look for another GOP president in my lifetime.
