Iraq urges calm ahead of Saddam verdict

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's prime minister on Saturday urged his countrymen to accept the impending verdict against Saddam Hussein without violence, then in the next breath declared the former dictator must get "what he deserves" with the decision that could send him to the gallows.

Ramses Clark is at idiot. Weren't the Nuremburg trials going on while we were still at war with Japan? Didn't we have a trial, conviction, and execution of Nazi sabatogers.
The Nuremberg trials started in November 1945. The war was over by then. The situation on the ground in Germany wasn't 100% secure by then, though.

Judge told Ramsey Clarke, "You are ridiculing the Iraqi people. You go. Now." and he was escorted away.
Saddam wouldn't rise to his feet. Judge instructed guards to get him to stand. Then Saddam started cursing them and telling them not to touch his arm. Judge told guards OK, then they read the sentence & Saddam began his Allah Akbar chants & I believe said he spit at the judge and told him "go to hell" as he was escorted off (If I was the Judge I'd have said, "YOU FIRST!"

My first guess would be a Nobel Peace Prize, or possibly a letter of praise from the UN.

BAGHDAD, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein was sentenced to hang by a U.S.-sponsored Iraqi court which found him guilty on Sunday of crimes against humanity. The ousted president, visibly shaken, shouted out "Allahu Akbar!" (God is Greatest) and "Long live the nation!".
