This story might speak for itself through its photos - what looks like millions of people - have marched across the 15-mile length of Caracas, from shantytown outskirt to big city skyscrapers to shantytown outskirt, on behalf of Manuel Rosales, whos destroying Hugo Chavez at the polls. At long last, democracy may be coming to Venezuela, assuming no cheating goes on in the electronic voting machinery. Today, it becomes harder for that to happen. This is one heck of a massive rally.

"Not to worry Ol Jimmuh will go down there and as Hugo steals the election Jimmuh will quickly declare it kosher. Then he will smugly ride off knowing that the UN and his buddies in Europe and Iran will quickly rally around Hugo as the declared winner.
I'm willing to bet that's what will happen."

Thank you for posting this Timeout and thanks for the ping proud_yank.
I want you to know that I have been paying attention, I have an article on the web site of
El Universal (Caracas) entitled "
Some 100,000 People Accompanied Opposition Candidate Rosales through Caracas." So it is worth knowing that the Venezuelan people are being fully informed.
That's what I'm waiting for right now. I am almost sure I'm going to post something on all this, but I want to see what "all this" is first.
If it comes up elsewhere, make sure to ping me there too.

Latin American Left Watch ping to article and ping to my number 84 above and this additional commentary.
There has been something of an electoral scandal developing the past couple of days in Venezuela over the speech which was given recently to the unionized petroleum workers Pdvsa in which Chavez's appointed director practically threatened anyone who was not supporting Chavez with being removed and replaced by a "Bolivariano." The speech was videotaped and the details of it are everywhere in the Venzuelan press. It's clear election meddling and its timing just before the Rosales march has made Rosales's response one that will be taken from him while he is surrounded by 100,000 people. And framing his response is the declaration by Hugo Chavez today that Ramirez did nothing wrong, asking "
What would they say if they saw me talking to the miliary? This has been viewed as some pretty threatening stuff. This is a quote from the just linked-article:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
. . . That the Pdvsa is revolutionary? Clearly it is! Hey, tell me what they would say if they were to hear me, one of these days, speaking to workers, to the military for example. What would they be saying if they heard the commanders speaking with the soldiers? What are they trying to do?," Chavez added, at the opening of the Los Teques (capital of Miranda State) metro. . . . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So all of this hoopla is framing Rosales's response today, which is to support the "civil" basis for government employment in Venezuela's oil industry as a guarantee of their jobs, while Ramirez and Chavez are both saying that their jobs and passing the "revolutionary" test go hand in hand. It's very serious stuff in this election climate.
I'll be getting back to everyone later, this is just an update so you don't get left out.

That is what I call vox populi. With that kind of turnout in the capitol, it is no mystery why Chavez is stocking-up on AK-47s and buying tons of 7.62mm ammo. I pray for a peaceful tranistion away from Chavez. If a peaceful transition is not possible, them may Hugo croak it before much blood is spilt.

Gee whiz! StJacques.
Judging Chavez' comments, however, he sounds caught flat-footed, never for a second thinking this would have been found out. He's virtually speechless; and floundering.
Good.

The media sees this as a red flag to get Jimmeh Carter down there immediately. Or at least it should prompt them to ask him what he thinks may be turning the tide....or probably that would a better question to ask after election day, when Chavez loses.

Jimmah is in Managua this evening. He's about to preside over the Nicaraguan elections.

There's a military in Venuezuela. There's also a problem. Chavez declared that all people ARE the military of Venezuela. Chavez has been bumping out the truly qualified for the radical zealot supporter with no skills, militarily.
Makes me think those weapons are for another purpose, elsewhere.
