'San Francisco Values' Under Attack
CBS 5 SAN FRANCISCO ^ | 04 NOVEMBER 2006 | CBS 5

(CBS 5) SAN FRANCISCO -- Voted America's favorite city to visit, San Francisco is no longer a tourist postcard, but a poster child for everything Republicans say is wrong with America.

Republicans across the nation are bashing "San Francisco values" in their campaigns against Democratic candidates.

With Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi poised to become Speaker of the House, the city has become an outright punching bag for politicians as a host of political ads running in other parts of the country are targeting her in the closing days of this campaign.

"Liberals from all over the country are giving Brad Ellsworth hundreds of thousands of dollars to cast just one vote for speaker of the house. Speaker Pelosi will then give Chairman John Conyers orders to reward millions of illegal aliens," says one television ad for Indiana Republican incumbent Congressman John Hostettler.

A radio ad featuring the voice of a Clint Eastwood impersonator also attacks Hostettler's opponent.

"Why are liberals smearing Congressman Hostettler? Because they want you to vote for Brad Ellsworth, so he can cast his first vote for speaker of the house for San Francisco liberal Nancy Pelosi. Speaker Pelosi will then put in motion her radical plan to advance the homosexual agenda," the ad says. "Led by Barney Frank, reprimand by the house after paying for sex with a man who ran a brothel out of Congressman Frank's home."

Another ad is running in Illinois against Democrat incumbent Congresswoman Melissa Bean.

"Perhaps she doesn't want you to know that she follows Nancy Pelosi 83 percent of the time," the ad says. "That may be popular in Pelosi's San Francisco's congressional district but not in Illinois. Melissa Bean, just a Nancy Pelosi wannabe."

Everywhere, what's being called "San Francisco values" are in the bullseye.

But what does that mean?

"They're talking about deviant behavior. They're talking about a gay agenda. They're talking about liberalism, flag burning, and anti-establishment," said San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. "That's what they're trying to connote."

And city natives are starting to resent the ads.

"I think I've lived longer in San Francisco than any other living political figure. I'm 73 years old. I've lived all my life here," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein. "I think I represent, to a great extent, San Francisco values."

But picking on San Francisco isn't new. It's right out of a conservative playbook that may have run its course.

Political consultant Chris Lehane says other states are starting to want "San Francisco values" for themselves.

"The government under the Bush administration, particularly under the religious conservatives, have really imposed themselves into people's bedrooms and into people's personal lives," Lehane said. "Out here in San Francisco, people hold individual rights and liberties in very, very high regard."

San Francisco was once one of the most Republican cities in the West

Wasn't the '64 GOP Convention held there? Or maybe I'm thinking of '48...??

The beautiful city-by-the-bay has been defaced and devalued by squatters and extremists of the liberal and lavender persuasions...
It's a pity and a tragedy...

Frisco is full of militant sexual deviants, narcissist childless singles, and drug addict bums.

This will come as such a shock to these poor folks

Yes, it was the '64 convention that nominated Goldwater.

Frisco, Texas appears to be the anti-San Francisco. And a wonderful place to live!

My recent trip to SF with my pregnant wife:

Day 1: Pulled up to the hotel a bum began screaming at another bum and continued angrily yelling at the top of his lungs as he walked by my wife. He looked at me and toned it down but walked on screaming less loudly.

Walked out of hotel for dinner and was shown a bag of weed by a young guy asked if I was interested.

Day 2: Drove to Napa, was nice. Later that evening avoided contact with leering homos as I walked with my wife to dinner.

Day 3: Went to the Pier, was ok. Was singled out and harassed by young arab guy while walking back to my car.

Day 4: Went to China town, nice, had a fine meal in a quiet restaurant with photo of Bush 41 behind the register. Avoided a possible bum fight between 2 black bums and 1 white bum who could barely stand but was screaming. Had another bum point a joint right in my face and yell "THIS F***ING LASER BEAM BETWEEN YOUR EYES YOU F***ING PIG!!"

Love those SF freedoms baby, they are groovy. In Texas where I live this wouldn't happen because I would have knocked the piss out of at least 3 people and would have been backed up by the police and the citizens. I Didn't get that feeling in SF. Too bad such a beautiful city has to be so messed up.

San Francisco looks so appealing and even majestic with views from the Golden Gate Bridge or from the shores of Sausalito. The streets are full of able bodied beggars and homeless types. It's a shame that the liberals have control over the western coastal regions ringing with twisted perverted sexual habits and Marxist/Socialist liberal politics.
Time to take it all back from these gremlins.

Attention! Attention You have committed a non sequitur!!!
SF has NO values. You must return to the starting line and rephrase your header.

SF is one of the few cities where you had better be very certain of the friends you have protecting your backside.

San Francisco was a conservative city but the sixties happened and there was the influence from Univ of Calif - Berkley and their communist faculty. Most things wrong in this country have to do with the influence of liberal college faculty. They took over the law, Journalism and the education colleges of the universities and have used that influence to try and bring down this country.

Hey, wait a minute, my ex-wife is still there.

On the other hand, maybe that's why she's still there.

I lived there about 4 years until she told me she "needed her space", obviously without me in it.

I hated every minute of the place. Nice weather, some good restaurants, convenient airport, slow drivers, lots of predictable, cliched leftie, commie, socialist America haters and traitors.

At that point we'll "vote from the rooftops", sunshine.

So, San Francisco's a little defensive about their valueless values?

Yep was just there in October for a convention. The city is the pits. You can't get half a block wihtout being accosted by a bum. They smell, certain streets reek of urine and I'm not talking about out of the way streets I'm talking right in the heart of the city. You're lucky if you can find a cab within 20 minutes.

Hey give me NY anyday. They may be full of liberals but at least they were smart enough to twice elect Rudy. During his two terms the city was transformed. I worked there from the end of the Dinkins (most ineffective mayor of any major city in history) administration all through Rudy's reign. The clean-up was nothing short of a miracle. Still today you rarely get approached by a bum in the streets even if on the rare occasion you happen to see one. The subways are generally clean and graffitti free as are most other formerly scarred bulidings, etc.

What were you wearing? It sounds like something was attracting the attention of the freaks. Maybe you look too normal?

FWIW I grew up in the Bay Area, and have spent enough time in SF to really despise the place.

We live some 60 miles NW of SF, and our daughter hates visiting the city...she considers it too creepy.
