University of Pennsylvania president Amy Gutmann threw her annual Halloween costume party at her home Tuesday night. Among the guests was Saad Saadi, who came dressed as a suicide bomber, complete with plastic dynamite strapped to his chest and a toy automatic rifle. Worse, Gutmann posed with Saadi!
An obvious question: would Gutmann have posed with a guest--or even allowed him into her house--if he'd dressed as Adolf Hitler or a Nazi SS officer? A KKK member?
But in modern liberal circles, posing as a Palestinian suicide bomber (see his kefiya) is just fine. After all, he mainly tries to kill innocent Jews.

Right you are. Consider this guy is from Syria and the stuff on his web site. I think you will agree this is not an acceptable costume.
It's not wrong to ridicule them, no. My sense of this "costume" incident though, is that it isn't serious, it's the sort of non-thinking that unfortunately goes on alot at schools nowadays. It's my opinion they thought that it was, as he put it, a 'scary' costume, but it's also obvious they thought it cool and fun to mimic a terrorist.
I saw his website. I don't care if he went to Syria (which makes sense if his family is Syrian), his trip photos look pretty normal to me. I think his major malfunction is he doesn't use the brains God gave him, and hangs out with other superficial boozing kids whose idea of a good time is to video oneself pretending to jerk off while yelling silly stuff about the President. This guy's biggest danger is that he'll live his life as a useful idiot.
If it was supposed to be scary, okaaaaaay.
If it was supposed to be funny, disgusting.
Now if someone in a pig costume ran up and licked the "terrorist's" face while yelling "No virgins for you!", THAT would be funny.
If you look at his whole album of party pictures, it's pretty obvious he meant no harm and there was some back and forth (his weapon being turned on him etc). They all seem alot more interested in getting drunk and being silly than anything else. His roommate is an exchange student fron Tel Aviv and he says they get along great and that he thought the costume was funny, so, seems his biggest crime is being young and thoughtless.

Jason and I ran into a crackhead. He tried to sell us marijuana. It was so pathetic.
You have absolutely no clue as to how miserable YOU would be if you ever got your hateful wishes to undermine America.
But your current problem is a little more immediate.
How will you lie your way out of this so as not to upset the alumni?
Hmmmm, I think I have it. Just say is was a "botched joke".
Drunken fools.
Somehow I don't think this Saadi puke was just playing dress-up.
Penn is a liberal cesspool.
Would it matter if he wasn't a lib but a straight ticket pro-war Republican?
We rightfully mock the left for taking offense and whining at everything. Let's not be like them.
Would she have appeared with someone dressed as Ariel Sharon (pre-coma, of course) or Boruch Goldstein?
I don't think so. That would have been "beyond the pale" for "Ms. Future Burka'd and Clitoridectomized Dhimmette"
Just when I think that can't get any dumber, they go ahead and prove me wrong. What next? dressing up as an abortionist with a doll covered in blood? Why not dress up as Ten Bundy.
going to stop now as I'm only giving them ideas.
or how about a Christian???
No no no! that's beyond the pale.
If this comment gets pulled by the moderator, I will understand. Having said that, this cu#t needs to have someone reach down her throat, pull out her colon, and use it as a jump rope.
My first thought was also of the "Polictical Correctness" angle.
But as I thought about it my mind turned more to the inherent dangers. It's along the lines of police having to shoot a kid pointing a gun at them---how were they to know it was a toy gun? What about kids going into a 7-11 dressed as robbers with bandanas over their faces and toy guns? Is the clerk to assume they're just trick or treaters?
Which brings me to my point: If this is acceptable, then Halloween just became the #1 best day for suicide bombers to strike. Hey! It's just a costume! BOOM!
It's sad, but we really are our own worst enemies.
You are thick. I pray you are NOT in some position of power.
Nobody's suggesting a law against dressing like an idiot, nor is anyone saying this kid should be disciplined. This is not PC run amock. We're simply expressing outrage and offense.
I think it's important to note there's a difference between dressing as Hitler at a party in 2006 vs. if you had done so in 1942. It's obviously done for shock value, so don't be surprised if people are thoroughly shocked.
Even if it was in 2006 rather than 1942, would it be any less offensive to victims of the Holocaust, WWII vets, or their descendants? I don't think we can use distance as an excuse. If this kid shouldn't dress up as a terrorist, then no one should dress up as Stalin, Hitler, KKK, blackface, Steve Irwin, Cory Lidle, Tylenol pills or anything else.
"It's obviously done for shock value, so don't be surprised if people are thoroughly shocked."
True.
Interesting that he appears to be holding a Gideon Bible--the kind that get handed out on college campuses.
