One of the men in a buzz-generating photograph taken in Iraq is a St. Cloud police sergeant, St. Cloud Police Chief Dennis Ballantine said.
Marty Sayre is one eight soldiers in a photo poking fun at Sen. John Kerry that is making the rounds on the Internet. The photo shows the National Guard soldiers holding a sign that says Halp us Jon Carry we R stuck hear N Irak.
The sign is a riff on comments Kerry made Monday to a group of college students. You study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you dont, you get stuck in Iraq, he said.
The comments immediately became fodder in a heated midterm election battle that has focused on the war in Iraq.
Kerry later said it was a bad joke and apologized to anyone he offended.
Ballantine said he received an e-mail from Sayre, who said he was in the photograph. Sayre wrote that the photo was meant for family and friends and was surprised by the attention it has gotten, Ballantine said.
Ballantine said he was happy to see the photo, because its proof that Sayre is alive and well.
Ballantine also pointed out that Sayre has a bachelors degree.
Watch for the stories.
This photo alone will give a ten point boost to Republican Senatorial candidate Mark Kennedy in Minnesota!
I thought of that myself.
Same here - and I love the grins on their faces -- Jon Carry is absolutely humorless and these fine folks are flashing their pearly whites with gusto, responding to the stupidest of insults.
A few people, who I knew didn't do computers, hadn't seen it yet.
Good for you! Republican camaigners should be handing out copies all over Minnesota.
As a conservative teacher/soldier, I find the "hukt on fonix" statement just the funniest thing I have ever seen.
LOL, everybody's favorite picture. It's now my desktop background.
There's a larger version posted @ 27.
A friend asked me to print one out on 8-1/2" x 11" paper so he could give it to a coworker whom he describes as "someone who should know better than to keep voting democrat." They have a good relationship, ribbing each other over things like this, but my friend hopes he's helping the guy to see more clearly.
BTW, sorry to hear of your being in the hospital and glad you're not there any more!
Newt just said that Cary cost the Rats one Senate seat and four House seats. Karl Rove has asked Cary to speak at the Republican National Convention in 08,2012.2016,..................
I don't see how these troops can get in trouble for emailing a joke photo to their families in Iraq. Their assigned military lawyer could easily argue that it was a private joke that slipped out into public view without their intending it.
Sure, the Democrats could put them through the wringer. But . . . should they want to? This story has enough legs already. Would the congressional Democrats really want to be seen persecuting a group of American soldiers because they took exception to Kerry's demeaning insult?
Bring it on! I can't imagine anything more stupid and destructive to the Democrats than to do something like that. What, Schumer and Kennedy getting up and demanding that the troops in Iraq should be punished for telling the truth about Kerry? I don't think so.
John Kerry testified before Congress. What'd these guys ever do? < /BIG sarc >
The soldiers "insult" Kerry and would face charges? Meanwhile Sen. John Kerry insults the Commander in Chief and doesn't even face censure?
