Kerry apologizes for botched joke on Imus Kerry says administration has failed America, playing distraction politics
In an unscheduled call-in interview this morning, Senator John Kerry (D-Ma) spoke with Don Imus about his misstatements in a speech Monday. He said that he is sorry for the botched joke, and that everybody knows I botched a joke. He also says he is going back to Washington so that he is not a distraction to the campaigns.
You can read the transcript from the conversation below.
DON IMUS, HOST: Please welcome to the Imus in the Morning program now the junior senator from the state of Massachusetts, Senator John Kerry.
Good morning, Senator Kerry.
SEN. JOHN KERRY (D), MASSACHUSETTS: Good morning, Don Imus. How are you?
IMUS: Please stop it.
(LAUGHTER)
Stop talking. Go home, get on the bike, go windsurfing, anything. Stop it. Youre going to ruin this.
(LAUGHTER)
KERRY: Im not going to let these guys distort something completely out of its context solely for the purpose of avoiding responsibility, which is what theyre doing.
Look, everybody knows I botched a joke. Its not the first time anybodys done that, Don. Am I right?
IMUS: ... the first time youve done it.
KERRY: Not the first time Ive done it. But on the other hand, its just a disgraceful thing when people try to assert that somebody like me, who has spent 35 years of my life fighting for veterans, standing up for veterans, fighting for their combat pay, fighting for Agent Orange recognition, fighting for their armor, fighting for their up-armored Humvees, fighting for them to have a strategy that wins, fighting to honor them that the notion that this comment was directed at them is an insult by these guys, and they know it.

The premise of that apology (botched joke) is a lie.
Who's Jon Carry?
when i was in viet nam, everybody knew i meant george bush when i said gook, or slope for that matter.
The very idea that the Bush Administration has "failed America" is a "botched joke". The Dems have been telling it so long, they think it's true.
So Kerry couldn't even get the punchline right in a sad worn-out joke. He's hardly in a position to pass judgement on someone elses' intelligence. Don't quit your day job, John 'eF (whatever the hell that is.)
Yesterday, Kerry said he "would apologize to no one." I guess he didn't apologize before he did.
When's Kerry going on with Jon Stewart to apologize?
Bottom line is Kerry is a LIAR. He meant to say what he did and is only sorry that the words were captured for the GOP to exploit. He meant what he said and is a liar in trying to explain it. The dims supporting him are cut out of the same cloth. I don't trust any of them and you can best believe they will be using their usual dishonest and criminal tactics on election day.
Excuse me, certainly he's had time to iron out the "botches", what joke did you intend to tell?
It makes no sense in any case, Mr. Cary.
Bush made better grades than you at Yale and has a Harvard MBA.
You were gung-ho for sending in troops to Iraq before and during the war.
Bush studied better than you; you would have gotten into Iraq also.
"If you study hard and do well in school you won't get stuck in Iraq" makes no sense for you to say about Bush.
I did not intend to tell any joke. Let me fatten that sentence so you can understand what I meant:
The premise of his apology is that he was sorry he botched a joke. He did not "botch a joke," and he's lying about that. The "botched joke" is actually exactly what he meant to say: a condescending dig at the intelligence of the U.S. armed forces.
After hearing kerry's non-attempts at an apology, Imus had to ask: I thought kerry was against torture. Kerry's long-winded explanation of his statement and his evasive attempts at an apology were nothing but pure torture.
If you go to school and study, you will do well. If you don't you might become the president of the United States (although, not a a very good one).
What's so funny in that?
Was the false testimony against his fellow Vietnam vets in front of congress a joke too? I guess we are just taking the man out of context.
What he plainly said was...
"I'm sorry good fellow...may I bother you for an additional
BOTULISM POKE ?"
It was "CRYSTAL CLEAR" to me anyways...
Kerry was trying to do a "Leno" or "Letterman" by trying to joke about GWB being "dumb," at least that's Kerrys' present excuse. Which, if you think about it, is really, really, really dumb because this close to an election if Bush is portrayed as the underdog getting bashed by an effite elite liberal, it could end up giving points to him and the Republicans. Someone has to call Osama and tell him nevermind with the bomb threats, we got something better.
