the squirril had been molested when very young and had been drinking right before the mail was delivered I'm also pretty certain that, as a young squirrel, this one was bullied by older squirrels, and developed a negative self image.
Sigh. If only they could have brought in a a mediator trained in rodent negotiations to find out what this desperate (and most likely jobless) squirrel needed, instead of resorting to bb-gun warfare...

I must confess, one time I shot a squirrel that kept crawling into our attic. Got it on the first shot, right between the eyes. Word must have gotten around as we were never bothered by squirrels again.
