WASHINGTON - Frustration over the prolonged Iraq conflict exploded onto the political scene yesterday as Republicans pounced on John Kerry for a botched joke and the Democrat slammed back at President Bush's "broken policy." With tensions escalating and the stakes high just a week before the midterm elections, the President led a GOP chorus demanding the Massachusetts senator apologize for a remark about how the uneducated "get stuck in Iraq."
But a furious Kerry refused to back down, saying he would never apologize for taking on the President - and that the criticism against him was orchestrated by "assorted right-wing nut jobs."

My favorite part:
"Pained Democrats didn't rush to Kerry's defense. In Iowa, Democratic congressional candidate Bruce Braley canceled an event with Kerry scheduled for .tomorrow. A Minnesota congressional candidate, Tim Walz, said Kerry pulled out of an event with him today"
It wasn't a botched joke. Mr. Kerry can backtrack all he wants. We heard what he said and know his meaning. It isn't the 1st time Kerry has deplorably maligned our troops. He is a major spokesperson for the dems and how they view our military.
For shame.
This is just beautiful... 'course, Kerry is well-versed in torpedoing his own side... :-)
This is a weak try at spin, and this reporter swallowed it. Kerry's comment about "right wing nut jobs" angers me even more than the comment about the military.
What everyone should notice is how eager Chris Matthews is to put Kerry's comments "in context." He wasn't so eager to do that for Rush last week. Everything Republicans do/say is taken out of context and distorted, yet we are supposed to believe Kerry didn't really mean what actually came out of his own mouth!
Kerry pulled out? Right. This blunder is of Rovian proportions.
Simply amazing.
"This is a weak try at spin, and this reporter swallowed it."
I'm afraid the entire MSM swallowed it.
Just woke up. It's 5 am here. Anyone get a newspaper yet? Did it make the first 10 pages?
That is to say, I'll simply stay out of the way.
Not to put too fine a point on it.
And the more they try to spin it, the more ridiculous they look. People watch the video, they read precisely what Kerry said, and then the outrageous Kerry spinners try to convince us we didn't see what we saw, and didn't hear what we know we heard. Don't they know they are insulting our intelligence?
After this exercise, he then does "the Clinton":
Admit nothing....
Deny everything....
Make counter accusations....
The DIMS can't figure it out because they are TOO STUPID.
I don't see what he should apologize for; this is totally consistent Kerry meant what he said and its just the latest statement or act that is totally consistent with his entire career, which was built on lies and defamation of American troops at war.
Republicans pounced on John Kerry for a botched joke
It wasn't a joke. He meant it.
Morning dear,
Don't they know they are insulting our intelligence?
They think they can treat us as though we were ALL democrats, they insult the intelligence of their own
party faithful constantly and get away with it so why not
everyone?
Off to work now.
t.
What he meant was: "Education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you become a Democrat."
Now, doesn't that make more sense?
the lib/dems keep stating that they are against the war but support the troops....
this is a clear demonstration of their support!!!!
