Kerry cancels Mankato appearance
The dueling rallies scheduled for Mankato today on behalf of Republican congressman Gil Gutknecht and Democratic challenger Tim Walz lost some of their pizzaz Tuesday night when Sen. John Kerry pulled out of the Democratic rally.
Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the front-runner for the 2008 Republican nomination for president, is the star attraction at a rally at the Midwest Wireless Civic Center for Gutknecht and Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee pulled out of the DFL event, which will still be held, as the result of a controversy over comments he made Monday inCalifornia.
Walz communication director Meredith Salsbery said Kerry canceled his visit to keep the focus on the issues and away from Kerrys comments and McCains response.
She wouldnt comment on whether Walz asked Kerry not to campaign for him, but said the decision was ultimately the senators choice.
Both of todays rallies are free and open to the public and are expected to last about an hour. McCain will be in the East Banquet Hall at the Civic Center. The event begins at 10:10 a.m., but people need to arrive by 9:50 a.m. The doors open at 9:15 a.m. No backpacks or other bags are allowed.
Doors open at MSUs Taylor Center at 11 a.m. for the Walz event with music by Martin Zellar beginning at 11:15 a.m. The rally begins at noon. Parking around campus is expected to be very limited, but shuttle buses will run starting at 10:30 a.m. from the Madison East Center.

How could Kerry cancel like that?
He assured the entire country in his rebuttal that he's sick and tired of these deceptive 'Republican tactics' and he's not gonna put up with it another day longer! They are THIS CLOSE to really putting their foot down.
He and his proud party can only be pushed so far, see?

Walz communication director Meredith Salsbery said Kerry canceled his visit to keep the focus on the issues and away from Kerrys comments and McCains response. This is what passes for real political courage in that wretched party.
By the way, I don't see anybody asking McCain to publicly apologize for chastizing Kerry's statement.
To: smonk
He won't apologize for his remark, just like he won't release his service record papers, .....
Didn't we hear just a few weeks ago in the Democrat/MSN talking points of the projection of the " Republicans Arrogance " by the Democraps/MSM ??
The Democrat/ MSN political part knows no bounds to hypocrisy and arrogance.

I just read about the Iowa candidate over at DU, and while there are a few exceptions, the DUmmies are calling the Iowa candidate spineless. They just DON'T see that they will NOT be getting their wildest dreams a week from now.
You think they were suicidal after '00 and '04? Wait until you hear the wailing next Wednesday morning!

You're right - we should pay him to speak..
The spooky thing is - Kerry lost by so little in the last election - that he could have been president had he made one simple apology..
If Kerry and set up cameras in front of the Wall on the Mall and offered an apology to the men he slandered -- that would have surely earned him enough additional votes that he could have been elected...
There were a lot of Democrat vets that STILL couldn't bring themselves to vote for the bastard, based on his lying and traitorous "testimony" before the Senate during the "unpleasantness in Vietnam"..
Now - his refusal to apologize once again - has cost him any chance of election...
We must all be grateful for small gifts..
Kerry is such an ass.

I wouldn't be surprised if in the next couple of days he does apologize. Of course it will be the Non-Apology Apology that politicians are so famous for.

What the h*ll is with all the Kerry bashers?
I can't think of a time in recent memory where this website has been more annoying.

You people whine all the time about Kerry never sticking up for himself. And when he finally does you complain about that! This was probably the toughest I've ever seen Kerry and it's still not good enough for you people.
Kerry is out there campaigning all over the country for Democratic candidates and people on this forum rudely tell him to, not only shut up, but shut the F*CK up. The crowd he was talking to knew what he was talking about. It's not his fault if some people are too stupid to realize he was referring to the idiot president and not the troops.
John Kerry is a good man who is trying to make this country a better place and he does not deserve the silly attacks on him that he's been getting today. Shame on any of you who are buying this media and GOP bullsh*t.
This required some censorship on my part.
DUer get to swear and everything. That's why they sound so oh so sophisticated.

The Communist/Anti-American/OSBL People demand More KERRY!!!Yes...Their base needed this pep-talk.
Now that Kerry has had his 'truth to power' moment, he's now exiled for a week to join fellow squatters Reid and Pelosi.

Of course it will be the Non-Apology Apology that politicians are so famous for..... he'll not really do that, but, find some reason ( other than look within himself for the blame ) to blame it on ( The Republicans made me do it ).
No, he'll apologize that the public was not educated enough to get his joke, because the only ones to understand him were the elite.
