Did John Kerry (D-Mass.) help himself in his Seattle news conference this afternoon to explain his astonishing remarks yesterday which sounded like an elitist shot at the intelligence of members of the U.S. military serving in Iraq? Short answer: no.
An angry Kerry tried to give his supporters and Democrats something to fight back with when he said: My statement yesterday, and the White House knows this full well, was a botched joke about the president and the presidents people, not about the troops.
If anyone thinks that a veteran, someone like me whos been fighting my entire career to provide for veterans to fight for their benefits, to help honor what their service is, if anybody thinks that a veteran would somehow criticize more than 140,000 troops fighting in Iraq and not the president and his people who put them there, theyre crazy. Its just wrong .
But heres the problem. In his moment of high dudgeon, he may have made matters worse. It probably wasnt a good idea to accuse everyone who saw the video of his campaign appearance and thought he was disparaging the IQ of U.S. troops of being crazy.

If "Lurch" didn't exist, the vast right wing conspiracy would have to invent him.
WOW when the liberal Chicago Trib b-slaps you ....you know you screwed up.
Does an implosion go "boom"?
Reminisce about his being in Vietnam?
(Behold the oh-so-sordid photo evidence...)
you ain't seen nothin yet..just wait till the evening of Nov. 7 and Nov. 8..the DUmmies are going to go apesh*t with hatred..it's going to be fun to watch..:)
Nor do I, however, that's his take on it now that its become national news. He'll try to spin his way out of this one, blame the "Republican Attack Machine" the way he did in 2004, and dig himself deeper. Why should we expect anything less from a man who votes for something before he votes against it?

...well, it sure didn't stop him from doing as much during Vietnam!
What a maroon. What a tah-rah-rah-GOON-dee-ay.
Normally, I would agree with your comments about Kerry. However, I listen to his words twice on this, and I'm glad that I did.
Regards, Ivan
Wait let me fix this for john F.
if anybody thinks that a veteran would somehow criticize more than 140,000 troops fighting in Vietnam and not the president and his people who put them there, theyre crazy.
Go ahead John tell us about Kennedy and Lyndon "tonkin gulf" johnson.
"Kerry came across as a raging elitist hemorrhoid on a political asshole."
This is one of the better descriptions of Kerry's folly today.
No, it goes "moob."
Just what my husband and I were saying to each other.
One of the reasons the traitor is trying so hard to be president, is, that, is the only way to expunge his military record. With an executive order. Sign the
SF180, you dumb sheet. (I am such a poor speller.)
I'm going to enjoy watching that tuckfard go down in flames.
His explanation makes no sense. He was speaking before a group of college students. Typically a liberal group of people. Sometimes even a group hostile to the military. It's obvious he was trying to score points in that environment with that particular group and that potential mindset. You're toast Lurch.
Hope Kerry says nothing!
Stands by his statements.
At least until next Tuesday.
