As a veteran, the recent comments that John Kerry simply make my blood boil.

The comments show the utter comtempt that Democrats like Kerry have for those who make the choice to serve their country and if Mr. Kerry was as informed as he claims to be he would know that at no time in history has the United States Military not only been the best trained, but the best educated and here are the facts.

Facts:

1)A growing number of Non Commissioned Officers, Limited Duty Officers and Chief Warrant Officers have or are obtaining college degress while in uniform which is adding formal education to a massive pool of experenced professionals that shape and model jr. military members.

2)Commands that once depended heavily on officers at the division level, today can additional depend on College Educated Officer-In Charge(E-7 and Above)and give to the Flag and Commanding Officers a greater ability to assign officers as needed by the command and when needed, thus putting more officers in the field.

3)Military Members from Iraq to Kosovo are taking part in online and distance learning college courses, while still meeting the mission and tasking requirements.

4)Flag and Commanding Officers are encourging jr. enlisted members to take courses offered by colleges located close to their bases. These Commanding Officers also encourge those Non-Commissioned Officers and Officers with degress to provide support services and encourgement to those Jr. members who are in college and the jr. members earn promotion points on their military evals yearly.

5)Today Military is techno based from UAV to Smart Bombs ,military members today have more general education than their World War 2, Korean and Vietnam counterpart combine. Boot Camps have moved away from shaping the physical prowlness of member to classroom based training, members today spend up to 75% of their boot camp training in a classroom setting.

6)A new military member of today arrives at his unit with education-based training from boot camp to tech school, which in turn cuts down on individial training in the field and adds to the unit as a whole/

7)A E-7 and above with more than 20 years of military service today in some cases has just as much, if not more formal college education than recently commissioned officers.

8)During the Presidency of Ronald Reagan policies were put in place that encourged enlisted military members to obtain formal college educations and was part of the transformation and build up of our forces.

9)A majority of first time enlisted military members in uniform today have at least 10 college credit hours thru formal classroom training or college level courses.

10)Formal classroom based training has in the last 20 years cut maintain repair times in half and saved the American Taxpayer billions in repair cost and maintainence upkeep.

Opinion: I believe that John Kerry's comments show the disdain that the liberal Democrats have for our military. In his opinion the military is made up of dumb hick, thugs and other who cannot get in college or who are unable to cut it in college, but the fact that I have as a former military member posted above shows otherwise. The military members of today are some of the most educated and well trained members our nation has fielded in battle.

This post is in defense of our military members who while in uniform cannot speak freely and those well educated military members who gave their lives in service to our nation.

If their are any current or former Officers and Enlisted reading this who can add to my list of facts please do.

Please forgive any misspelling, slight headache today.

FLASH: McCain Calls On Kerry To Apologize
Tue Oct 31 2006 11:43:14 ET

Senator Kerry owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country's call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education. Americans from all backgrounds, well off and less fortunate, with high school diplomas and graduate degrees, take seriously their duty to our country, and risk their lives today to defend the rest of us in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere.

They all deserve our respect and deepest gratitude for their service. The suggestion that only the least educated Americans would agree to serve in the military and fight in Iraq, is an insult to every soldier serving in combat, and should deeply offend any American with an ounce of appreciation for what they suffer and risk so that the rest of us can sleep more comfortably at night. Without them, we wouldn't live in a country where people securely possess all their God-given rights, including the right to express insensitive, ill-considered and uninformed remarks.

Good to see you weigh in on this, my friend. Kerry's utterly despicable comments about our military have created a mighty anger.

I may not agree with McCain as a Senator, but he is still a Captain and I am proud to say I have his back on this one.

Thank you for your great support! The soldiers here in the hospital recovering from their injuries salute you and thank you!

Kerry is typical of the liberal mindset about those of us who are in the US military because we have a great love and a responsibility to keep this Country and our fellow Countrymen safe from these terrorist who the liberals want to give Constitutional rights to!

John Kerry needs to have his socialist ass kicked all over this hospital, and then placed in a body cast, and have fire ants placed on him!

Thank you again from the men of the 82nd ABN AA "All Americans."

Yeah, but they don't go to IVY leagued schools. And their daddy's aren't rich. So the elitist Kerry has a point. Only he is smart.

When I first read that quote from Kerry, I thought is was the most condascending bit of snobbery I had ever seen.

Then, I saw it for something else. This should be the rallying cry to get every person that ever thought about voting Republican to the polls to pull the lever for Republicans. Nothing would finish this morons (Kerry) career like being the reason the Democrats LOSE again.

I have taken quite a few online courses with folks in the military. They are bright, hard-working, intellectually curious, and honest.

I can't be more proud of the group of individuals that are in our Armed Services. Working to protect us and investing in themselves through education. It is truly heroic!

From Instapundit:

JOHN KERRY -- a gift that keeps on giving. Unfortunately, it's a gift for the Republicans. . . .

Kerry's suggestion that the troops in Iraq are dumb failures is not only reprehensible, but false on the facts. In other words, a typical Kerry performance, just in time for the elections. Democrats must be wondering what they were thinking to nominate him in 2004, and why he won't go away now.

UPDATE: John McCain's office sends this demand for a Kerry apology from Sen. McCain:

Senator Kerry owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country's call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education. Americans from all backgrounds, well off and less fortunate, with high school diplomas and graduate degrees, take seriously their duty to our country, and risk their lives today to defend the rest of us in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. A major blunder for Kerry and the Democrats, timed to do maximum damage to them and maximum good for the Republicans.

Thank you for posting this. You make a strong point.

As a mother of one of our fighting men, I take personal umbrage at sKerry's remarks. My son was in college and doing well enough when he was activated. He wasn't drafted; he volunteered as did everyone else in today's military.

The "s" in sKerry stands for "stupid."

Well, I asked for a college admission deferment so I could enlist and serve first. Just because I wanted and could so I did.

And not just with college afterwards, throughout my career I spent more time in training and classrooms than Kerry ever spent in undergraduate and graduate schools.

And I could have retired 18 months after 9-11 but I chose to stay on for another three years just in case I was needed.

And I don't have to depend on a senator-for-life post nor a rich wife to make a decent living for myself.
