Simple Things We All Can Do To Help Stop Global Warming

Below is a link to a great article from The NY Times titled “Beyond Fossil Fuels” by Robert B. Semple Jr. The piece acknowledges that while stopping global warming is an overwhelming and daunting task, everyone has the power to make a difference by making simple, conscious decisions in their every day lives. The Streisand Foundation supports the non-profit group Earth Day Network, and they have compiled a list of a few easy ways you can conserve energy and help protect the environment from further deterioration:

1) Change old, incandescent lights to newer energy-saving models (compact fluorescent lights), turn off lights when not in use and dim lights when in use. 2) Update your heating/cooling system to a more efficient model 3) Tune up old heating/cooling systems, clean out the vents, buy a programmable thermostat 4) Make sure windows are sealed and doors are closed when running air conditioners and heaters 5) Turn on the energy saver switch near your refrigerator’s thermostat 6) Make sure that your refrigerator door seals properly 7) Clean out the condenser coil on your refrigerator (can improve the efficiency of your refrigerator by one third) 8) Wait until you have a full load before running your dishwasher 9) Invest in green stocks and renewable energy companies through socially responsible funds 10) Eat locally grown food and fruits and vegetables that are in season (if the food doesn't have to travel far, there's less carbon dioxide from the trucks that ship it) 11) Eat organic (the pesticides used on crops releases carbon contained in soil into the atmosphere) 12) Buy recycled

I wonder how much of this she does for herself?

It's all relatively benign stuff.

Wow!!

This quite possibly is the dumbest thing I have ever read.

I especially like, "keep refrigerator door closed". If this does indeed have any effect on global warming then Teddy Kennedy could single handedly be responsible for the whole thing.

Start B.S. Mode:

Save energy by moving out of a massive beachfront mansion that uses more energy than any ten regular homes, and live in a small bungalow.

Oops, that means ME! Sorry, but you little people need to be the ones saving all the energy, and then you can marvel at my wonderful lifestyle as a reward!

End B.S. mode.

I must have missed her recommendations for private jets, ostentatious mansions and SUV motorcades. Did she have any useful suggestions?

No thanks.

I wouldn't bother to read drivel from this second rate mind but it would be interesting to know if she's finally learned how to use a spell-checker.

Babes could quit wasting paper. That would be a start.

Honestly, what are these idiots thinking? They are going to stop global warming by creating more waste? burning more fuel to get their message out?
The best thing they can do, is SHUT UP!!! Ride a bike Babes, and pinch off one of your humongous nostrels, you are breathing in too much air, and breathing out too much CO2

Yes, just what we all need - some braindead singer to tell us things that are common sense and I (as well as everyone I know) have done for years, not to mention I wonder how much of this she abides by herself. If she really cares about the enviornment, she should keep her mouth shut, because all she can really do is help ensure that some people do NOT do these things out of spite.
