CO: GOP hopeful draws fire on gun issues

A Republican state House candidate is under fire for her record at the Colorado Capitol lobbying against stricter gun measures.

Democrats say Aimee Rathburn, of Denver, is out of touch with voters in House District 1.

Democrats have nicknamed her "Aimee, get your gun."

"So?" was her response. "I was expecting them to attack me on the gun issue because that's the usual Democrat fall-back issue. I think they're trying to win an election by taking cheap shots and lying about my record."

Rathburn faces Democrat Jeanne Labuda, of Denver.

Their district includes southwest Denver and Sheridan.

Rathburn was the executive director of the Colorado State Shooting Association when several gun measures related to the Columbine High School shootings were debated in the 2000 session.

She opposed stricter controls, including criminal background checks at gun shows.

Tom Mauser, whose son Dan died at Columbine, said that Rathburn testified against "common sense" gun measures supported by Republican Gov. Bill Owens and Democratic Attorney General Ken Salazar.

"I went to the state Capitol to lobby for (the bills), but at every turn, Rathburn was there opposing these reasonable measures," Mauser said. "It bothers me to think she could be at the Capitol as a legislator, pushing her extremist agenda for Denver."

Rathburn said she opposed the bills because she believed they would drive gun sales underground.

"Democrats think I'm in favor of criminals getting guns," she said. "As the wife of a police officer, I'm the last person who would want a criminal with a gun."

First of all, what the hell are "common sense gun measures?"

Second, if old Tommy boy doesn't like guns, he should change his last name.

The RATS are still trying to push gun control, proving just how desperate they are by falling back on a proven loser.

I got sick and tired of professional victim tom mauser a long time ago. Somebody should privately tell him to STFU.

I find them well entrenched in the 2nd Amd., preceding "...shall not be infringed."

Blackbird.

That's not how the politicians see it.

These fricking laws didn't stop these school shootings. Once again Rat politicians are exploiting victims to advance their anti-gun agenda. I'm glad the woman is basically telling them to go pound cement.

Rats = Gun Grabbers. It's as simple as that. I LMAO on gun forums when Democrats and 'Progressives' argue that they have enough influence over their party to keep them from trampling on the 2nd amendment.

Like vote fraud, gun grabbing is mother's milk to the rats.

"pushing her extremist agenda for Denver."

If America thinks her views are that of an extremist, then how come the DemocRats aren't campaigning with this message nationally? Perhaps it is because he is the on who is out of touch.

I'm sorry this man's son was murdered, but he is not entitled to trample the Bill of Rights as therapy for his loss.

I read an article that 3% of city people and 97%of non city people own firearms. The liberal wackos in denver try to shove their liberal agenda down the throats of "non city" people and steal billions of dollars from interstate funds for their own main street "terex". I hope there is some common sense left in the state to override the toxic liberals and we can get back to a dull roar!

I've said this before here. Tom Mauser and Cindy Sheehan should hook up. They're both making a very good living off their dead kids.

Anything and everything the gun control advocates can dream up.

My comment was a facetious one. I've been an NRA lifer since 1973, so I think I understand the anti-gun jerks.

There are Republicans that favor gun control too. As far as Im concerned, even laws that restrict sawed off shotguns, suppressors, and short barreled rifles are infringing on our rights.

Do you know that you have to be law enforcement to buy +P+ ammo for a .38 special revolver?!?!

That is just stupid.

"Do you know that you have to be law enforcement to buy +P+ ammo for a .38 special revolver?!?!"

Really? Where's that at? I'm in CA and I don't know of any restrictions on +P ammo. A friend of mine just bought about a thousand rounds of +P+ .44 Mag. I just recieved 200 rounds of +P 9mm. I've bought lots of +P .45, even .357.

+P is not the same as +P+. There's no restrictions on +P.

I"m currently in Iowa, but that was in a Nebraska store that I was told that. I don't know about other calibers. I think it might be only .38 special ammo that has the restriction...which is even dumber.

I'm hip. That's why I brought up +P+ and +P in the same reply.
