Live radio interview with Webb.
The books include some graphic sexual passages, as well as frequent uses of a racial slur for blacks and descriptions of Vietnamese women as "monkey-faced."
If this was written by a Republican, the MSM would be going ballistic. What a double standard.
Web saw a young person sexually abused/molested and did nothing to stop it but instead chose to write a book???????
Anyone with such bad judgment should not be permitted to hold elected office. And, as an aside, we REALLY need a minimum IQ requirement before letting people vote. LOL
Having said that, if I had seen such things and were a writer, I would not have written of it. In fact I wouldn't even discuss such things they're so disgusting.
Now if this were a non-fiction anthropology text, there may be some justification for including it...(although National Geographic hasn't seen fit to mention it). But this was FICTION (literary works of imagination: novels and stories that describe imaginary people and events).
In what section do you file books that contain this sort of material...I say in the section that you have to show ID to get into.
I also read elsewhere on FR that Webb says that homosexual fellatio sex isn't really sex. (Sickeningly reminiscent of Clinton saying oral sex isn't really sex).
Anyway, if actually having sex isn't sex, why were the Democrats so outraged at Foley who wrote about sex with young males but didn't have have sex?
Of course maybe they'll call him President Bush after he has left office.
Maybe somebody ought to ask that Karr guy if he witnessed any of this while he was in Thailand...be might be a good defender of Webb.
No, I'll be "happy" if you take the time to read my post which had nothing to do with current office holders. The current president should always be referred to as "President Bush". Not "Bush" or "Mr. Bush" by the media. Our of respect for the office which he currently holds.
I read half of two of the books in question last night, and they are packed full of bizarre and just disgusting sexual references, usually for no story-telling reason. They are just there. Something is not quite right with Mr Webb's brain. It is nice that he is a combat hero, but so was Ehud Barak, even though he later almost gave half of Israel (and Jerusalem) away. So was Duke, and he was a pathetic crook. It means nothing. We must look at the man now, not back in combat.
I was able to check these books out of our local public library.
Any kid could also have checked them out. That includes an audio tape of one of the books (unfortunately, NOT narrated by Jim Webb himself, or I could have some fun with it).
So Webb wrote books that are available to children in the library but he doesn't think they are appropriate to be mentioned on the radio.....
He was also in another position in the administration, and quit THAT one after about 3 years. He has a habit of quitting when things are not going his way.
Well, that and Allen didn't DODGE the draft.
Yes, Webb says he couldn't get his way, and rather than fight for what he believed he just quit.
THe funny thing is the local liberal blogs are full of people who claim that Mark Plotkin is a "hard interview" and that Webb was BRAVE for going on the show.
factcheck is usually pretty good, but they messed up on that one. IN the ad, there are also words on the screen.
after it says "served in the reagan administration", the text pops up and says he was confirmed as the Navy Secretary, and THEN the voice-over says he resigned after 10 months. So the Ad was correct.
There are a TON of passages....also called Vietnam woman.."monkey faced"!!
It is just one more sickening episode in political America today. From the perp to Webb to, yes, even Allen being forced to lower himself to RAT tactics just to have a stab at a level playing field.
Problem is, the playing field is lower than the sewer anymore. Hence our politicians operate like sewer rats.
I'm disgusted with the whole thing.
You and me both. As you said last night, it's no wonder good people don't want to enter the political arena.
More like 'banana boated', on the basis of some of what Webb's written.
Does the author, as a narrator, use the "monkey face" description or does a character in the book use that description?
Historical novels try to depict history as it actually was and a Vietnam veteran would write things that he heard and saw in Southeast Asia.
If an author writes about how things really were during the Vietnam War, some of his characters will use terms such as "gook" and other racial slurs. That is how things actually were.
If an author writes about how things really were in the Deep South during the 1950's or during the time the Huckleberry Finn character was supposed to have lived, you are sure to have the characters use the "N-Word".
This issue has come up before......"Should Huckleberry Finn be banned because it is racist for using the N-Word ?"..... and we conservatives have correctly called that Political Correctness since the novel was only being true to its era.
