Here is the annual haunted thread. Post your true ghost stories here... This has been somewhat popular ovedr the last three years given the feedback I've received. We just need to keep bumping the thread and keep it active.
That beats anything I can come up with . . . but if you are looking for REAL ghost stories . . .
I believe . . . SOMEONE besides hubby and me lives at our house and occasionally lets us know. Heavy boots walking in the hallway, doors shutting or opening on their own and was seen once by two grandchildren (ages 14 and 13). They are now in their 20s and still refuse to stay at our house alone.
One thing that happened to me when I was about twelve or so, I'm still not sure if it was a ghost or what:
I was at our cabin in Canada (Which has a great view of the lake), watching TV with my mother. Then, I turned and looked out the window to see the lake, and I saw the silhouette of a tall man literally running ON the water! He was running kind of slowly, and making big strides. I turned to tell my mother to look out the window, but when I looked back at the lake, the silhouette was gone.
Hey, you promised not to tell!
shhhh...let's just go to MA and get married...(wink, wink) :-)
I will be glued to World's Scariest Places on ABC Family this Sunday.
I love that show and was disappointed when they took it off.
They also have some "ghost cams" (left side of the message board) and some pretty interesting photographs.
That's Sunday??? Grrrrrr.... Guess I'll have the vcr rolling. We have a bris (sp?) to go to. :-(
It would probably be rude to say I can't come because I have to watch ghost shows all day.
Yeah, I will be taping it.
I have so many ghost stories. Real ones that I've experienced. Maybe I'll spread them out over the next few days.
Here's a couple spooks that Mr. M has seen. We live in an older house which previously belonged to my grandparents. Before them it was the original builders who lived here, who were older, and her elderly mother so I'm fairly sure no has ever died here. However, Mr. M. claims he's seen things here over the years. Once or twice in Lil' M's room he has seen a white haired woman dressed in red. He knew my grandmother but couldn't say if it was her but he didn't feel the woman was harming anyone. We like to think the woman was just looking after Lil' M.
A few years later and for about 6 months, Mr. M would suddenly stop what he was doing and stare at something across our great room and say, "It's him again." None of us ever saw or felt anything but Mr. M is no nonsense and it wasn't a joke to him. He said it was an old man who would just appear and then vanish. One time, we were watching tv when Mr. M suddenly saw something behind me. I laughed and asked if it was Sam again. The look on Mr. M's face was unbelievable and he asked how I knew the ghost's name. I don't know if speaking the ghost's name out loud did anything but that was the last time Mr. M ever saw him.
It would be nothing to check on the original owner's name but I've not bothered for fear it might really be Sam.
Oooh. Thanks for the link!
When I bought the house, I installed a set of drop down attic stairs to make it easier to use the attic for storage. I was up there working the day before Christmas, and pried up a floorboard. It snapped in half, created a puff of dust and a small piece of paper flew up from beneath the floorboard and stuck to my shirt. This is what it read:
"Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Frank Bartkovich"
I went right downstairs, I did.
I found this web site cool. It list HAUNTED PLACES STATE BY STATE.
http://theshadowlands.net/places/
Here is a small example from my State of Washington.
Kirkland - Williams / Web Building - Several Residents (upstairs) have seen a short man in a hat, reported footsteps, cold spots, minor moving objects, rapping. A pair of residents (sisters) reported being "sat upon" while sleeping, one resident reported whispers in her ear. Restaurant workers (below) have spotted a shadowy figure
Lacey - Nisqually Middle School - A picture taken showed an orb in the "7b" hallway. Rumored to be the spirit of a kid who attended the school in the 80's who died while he attended. There's a plaque commemorating him in the front-left of the school near the bus lane.
Lake Stevens - A woman was killed while driving through a railing into Lake Stevens. People have claimed to see her floating above the water, staring at people as they drive by.
Lakewood - Thornewood Castle Bed and Breakfast Inn - This is the building that Stephen King filmed the movie Rose Red, but other real life things have been found there. Orbs and Ectoplasm are the most that they have found yet.
Leavenworth - Leavenworth cemetery - this place was once the burial site for railroad workers in the late 1800's, if you enter the cemetery at night you may see the workers carrying their lanterns, and some claimed to have heard the hammering of railroad spikes, and the workers whistling
Here's a couple links y'all might enjoy. The first is hundreds of ghost stories folks have submitted which, true or not, makes for some fun reading.
The second is a listing, by states and countries, of haunted places. Check the one in San Antonio, Texas on Shane Street. I'd hear about it for years and the story has been on some tv show. Supposedly, a school bus was hit by a train and if you park your car several yards back from the tracks the ghost children will push it across the tracks to safety. It appears the road goes UP as you advance to the tracks so whether it's an optical illusion or something else, I can't say for sure. We tried it last year and it really does happen. You're supposed to sprinkle baby powder on the back of your car and later you'll be able to see the children's handprints. We didn't see any handprints but... in spots it was smudged!
Please share some more when you get a chance.
I don't have any good spooky ones, but this is sort of a nice one. My grandmother passed away 6 years ago leaving my grandfather absolutely heartbroken. With the help of a grief counselor he has found some relief, but still misses her terribly.
Recently he was making some pasta. He finished up and took his plate into the dining room. The light over the stove went on. He got up and shut it off. As soon as he sat back down the light went on again. Now he's wondering what the heck is going on. He gets up and looks at what is making the light go on and notices he had left one of the burners on.
Possibly grandma watching out for him?
Thanks for ping bill.. I am posting two halloween threads (Singles for weekend) and Finest on Tuesday. I will refernce this thread!
