A Return to Triangulation (libertarion vs social right)
National Review Online ^ | 10/25/06 | David Boaz & David Kirby

Posted on 10/25/2006 11:10:46 AM PDT by Blackirish

As the Republican base fragments and Christian conservatives consider a “fast” from politics, the polling data point to a mid-term Republican thumping. Less than two weeks from now, Republicans will begin their post-mortem soul searching. And as the corpses of their House and Senate majorities grow cold, so should Karl Rove’s 2006 campaign strategy.

I was checking in on it from time to time after the first troll got banned. Some of it gets a little hard to follow.
Even weird..........
IMHO

Somewhere around posts in the 500 range things heat up....

Around the 650 range of posts the "bomb gets dropped", so to speak.....

After that things get just plain wild........

Read on, McDuff J

Hey! I'm having a lot of fun playing with cyber balloons, but ya know, I'm just one of those simple "anti-science" types. Maybe if I changed the subject to paint drying it would create an even bigger draw!

My next trick was going to be to go back to the topic of the original post, cuz I have strong libertarian (small l) leanings, but I dunno, paint drying is looking mighty attractive as the next threadjack.

Or, we could do talking cats...

Did you see the one with the cat flushing the tiolet? It was a couple weeks ago and it was hysterical. I'll see if I can find the link.

It is possible that you were right but for the wrong, or for a limited set of reasons.

Let's go back to see what I said.

Higher humidity would mean greater percentage of the atmosphere was water molecules & since water molecules are heavier than helium molecules, they would add to the tendency of the balloons to rise.

Glad you weren't scoring me on my grammar. I wasn't comparing the basement's air density to that of "normal" air. I was comparing it to the atmosphere within the balloon. I didn't make the claim that gravity *caused* the air to be more humid, so my statement about ratios remains true.

You don't think I stopped my investigation with my living room, basement comparison, do you? After moving into a two story house...

Cold increases the density of air and temperature changes at different rates inside and outside the balloon partly due to the possibility of the balloon's surface being a reflecting, mylar type and partly due to the different thermal conductivities involved.

The balloons remained at the ceiling long enough for the temperature inside of the balloon to equal the temperature of the basement. I'm not sure if a differential would have made a lot of difference, other than a slight encouragement upward at the onset. As the balloon cooled & the density differential was equalized, the balloon adjusted its size, which is why measuring it would have been appropriate if I was doing a controlled experiment. (I would have also controlled the air/helium ratio, as well as testing the composition of the "basement air".)

Editor-surveyor mentioned the different gas compositon of basememt air which is highly relevant.

True.

Do you remember what set off this tangent?

Well I'm up to 451 right now.

I can tell you. with all the honesty at my command, I'm pro-Science and also revere The Maker.

But my primary question is: Do we have the luxury of debating such items when, in our midst, the sons of Ishmael plan our doom?

I also consider myself "pro science". Only a fool would deny the scientific advances over the years.
(In my case that covers over 6 decades)

However, This (FR) is first and foremost a political forum and this thread as originally posted was a "political" thread.
In other words, this thread was not the venue for the debate or should I say battle that ensued.
