MSNBC is running a special section on how wonderful it is that Europe is being overrun by Islam; here’s a video report about Spain that is so whitewashed and sanitized you’d think the Spaniards never had a problem with the Moors: Reviving Granada’s Muslim traditions.

"Muslim Spain was a perfect example of a flourishing society in which Jews, Christians and Muslims lived in mutual respect and cooperation."

Muslim Spain was Christian Spain for over 400 years before being conquered by Islamic Armies in the 8th Century. That is the way the Islamic Religion has been historically spread, though military invasion and occupation. Treatment of conquered people has the same goal, the minimizing of other religions and conversion of the indigenous people. Among other rules for non Muslims in Muslim Spain; Christians and Jews could not bear arms -- Muslims could; Christians and Jews could not ride horses -- Muslims could; Christians and Jews had to get permission to build or fix places or worship -- Muslims did not; Christians and Jews had to pay certain taxes which Muslims did not; Christians could not proselytize -- Muslims could; Christians and Jews had to bow to their Muslim masters; Christians and Jews had to live under the laws set forth in the Koran, not under either their own religious or secular law; Christian’s and Jew's word in a court of law was not equal to a Muslim's Word; Christian and Jewish families had to give up a son for conversion and military service in Muslim armies and the most beautiful and largest Christian Churches were converted to Mosques. And the list goes on.

Today, 1300 years later, a Christian or Jew living in an Islamic country will still have to live nearly under these very same laws. I can see why the head of the Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations would want us all to do "our part" to create such a world.

The history of Western Europe would undeniably be very different had the Frankish army been defeated in 732.

Like the victory of Constantinople some fifteen years earlier, Muslim advances had finally been thwarted, and the steady Reconquista of Spain and parts of Byzantine Empire began apace.

Though the Byzantines finally succumbed by 1453, the Turks were eventually defeated in the great naval battle at Lepanto in 1571, and turned away from Vienna in 1683.

The threat of the Caliphate encroaching on Western Europe never penetrated as far west again--until today, as unassimilated Muslim immigrants threaten to "behead those who insult Islam" and foment rage at every perceived slight.

This is just part of the basic arrogance of liberalism. Liberals are the kind of people who go to college and really, sincerely believe that that makes them smarter and better than other people, so whatever they think the unwashed masses believe, they will believe the opposite. So if the masses have an instinctive and realistic perception that Islam poses a threat to our liberties, liberals will insist that the masses are wrong and that the problem is really with our mistaken attitudes about Islam. Liberals are unable to seriously engage reality. They are like the parson in the 1950s "War of the Worlds," who insists the Martians are "God's creatures, just like us," and marches into the open muttering prayers until he is mercilessly annhiliated.
