Rosie ODonnell took another vicious swipe at the Bush administration and its efforts to combat terrorism during Tuesdays The View. Liberal actor Tim Robbins appeared on the program to promote his latest film Catch a Fire, set in apartheid-era South Africa. In the film, Robbins portrays a white police officer who tortures a black South African man, wrongfully accused of sabotage of an oil refinery. While discussing the film and his character, co-host Rosie ODonnell equated the brutal tactics used against the people of South Africa by its own government with the Bush administrations Patriot Act.:
Rosie ODonnell: "They were seeking out terrorists, which is what they called the people in South Africa who actually lived there, who were the majority. The blacks in South Africa, who were trying to fight for their own civil rights, were called terrorists and the government was allowed to arrest them at will and interrogate them, no matter what they did, just on the suspicion. Very similar today to what we have in the United States, thanks to the Patriot Act."
Elisabeth Hasselbeck briefly defended the anti-terror legislation, before being cut off by Robbins and ODonnell, who went on to compare further "similarities" between South Africa under apartheid and President Bushs America:
Elisabeth Hasselbeck: "Well, and the Patriot Act, Im sorry, protects us. But that's a whole different story, but this"
Robbins: "What they didwhat they did that was similar was, they threw out due process. They threw out the right to attorney."
ODonnell: "Habeas corpus."
Robbins: "And they allowed the, the government and actually required people like this guy I play to torture people. And Im, so, so what it does to the individual is it, it puts an incredible moral burden on the agent of the government, the, the soldier or the policeman"
ODonnell: "Lynndie England."

I know some folks who lived through this time in South Africa. They were middle class white land owners who also had small businesses in the cities.
The black on white murder rate was enormous but the black on black murder rate was higher.
People were forced to barricade themselves in their homes at night in an armed camp. The roving gangs of black thieves and murderers would go from farm to farm every night stealing, raping, and killing. Each morning the owners would venture forth out of their armed homes to see what they had left.
When they would go to work each morning they would travel in large armed convoys to keep from being stopped and attacked on the highways. During these trips they could see what the roving bands did to the poor blacks living in the shanty towns along the way. It was often a slaughter.
This pig fat know-it-all bitch has no concept of the horrendous reality that blacks and whites lived through in South Africa.
If this hunk of flab had to speak only provable factual truth she would be mute. I think it's time to initiate a campaign against the sponsors of this show.

I saw "Dawn of the Dead" a couple of nights ago. In the movie, a small group of people have locked themselves inside a shopping mall to escape a very large crowd of canibalistic zombies, that soon surround the mall. After several days of being stuck in the mall, the small group of people find their way to the roof, where they pass the time picking off zombies, that look like celebrities, with a rifle.
"Hey, get the one that looks like Rosie O'Donnell!"
"Naw, too easy of a target"

Rosie - Tim - sigh.
Cite on case - one case - just one. This constant drivel about the evils of the Patriot Act is unnerving.
Although, in the interest of intellectual honesty (understand that concept Rosie?) I will admit that the Republican's did officially and formally suspend Habeas Corpus...
In 1861.
His name was Lincoln.

I have never watched the show, but why does Elisabeth put herself through the wringer day after day with that bunch? She must be getting paid big bucks to take that abuse.

You must be talking about the remake since I have only seen the original and Rosie was unknown in those days.

Thinkers like Rosie don't seem to realize that, if the Muzzies are allowed to get what they want, they'll be the first to get bullets to the backs of their heads.
