'06 ELEX: BACK TO TOSS-UP

'06 ELEX: BACK TO TOSS-UP By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN Mc GANN

October 24, 2006 -- THE latest polls show something very strange and quite encouraging is happening: The Republican base seems to be coming back home. This trend, only vaguely and dimly emerging from a variety of polls, suggests that a trend may be afoot that would deny the Democrats control of the House and the Senate.

With two weeks to go, anything can happen, but it is beginning to look poss- ible that the Democratic surge in the midterm elections may fall short of control in either House

(snip)

Why are Republican fortunes brightening?

The GOP base, alienated by the Foley scandal and the generally dismal record of this Congress, may have fast forwarded to the prospect of a Democratic victory and recoiled. They may have pondered the impact of a repeal of the Patriot Act, a ban on NSA wiretapping and a requirement of having an attorney present in terrorist questioning - and decided not to punish the country for the sins of the Republican leaders.

Bush's success in dealing with North Korea and his willingness to reassess tactics in Iraq could also play a part in the slight shift now underway.

Then, too, some in the Democratic Party must be finally realizing what a disastrous decision it was to put Howard Dean in as party chairman. The Democratic National Committee is broke and borrowing, while the GOP can afford to fund fully its key races.

Right now, we would have to say that control of Congress has gone from "lean Democrat" to a "toss-up." And that's progress for the Republicans

This is really a turnabout for Morris. Sunday night on Fox he was saying that Republicans had no chance of holding anything.

He's trying to avoid embarassment come the election. Look for the MSM polls to start shifting the GOP's way soon for the same reason. They need to maintain at least some shred of credibility.

The guy flips more than a Monday Morning Quarterback.

Morris is the "Jimmy the Greek" of Politics.

Personally, I remember after 8 years of Reagan and 4 years of Bush I some of my friends had grown weary of the fight and thought maybe it wouldn't be so bad to let a Dem take the White House for a change. Well, WE GOT 8 YEARS OF CLINTON!!

If the Republican base sits home and pouts on election day then kiss control of Congress goodbye for a long, long time! Obtaining the majority is a VERY hard thing to do so it could be another decade or 2, or 3, before we see a Republican majority again.

Good to read this. I'm noticing the same trend. The national polls are pretty dismal, but the individual polls are more encouraging. Bob Corker seems to be pulling ahead, Conrad Burns is closing the gap and Allen is stabilizing.

In the House, I'm impressed by a whole slew of recent individual polls showing the GOP doing remarkably well in competitive districts.

Morris is the only person in America that still believes the polls. Garbage in Garbage Out!

Pray for W and The Election

Notice how slooooooooooooooooooow the turnaround is being reported.

On tick and it is a democrat landslide.

now the tick goes to republican and it is a cautious movement or a SLIGHT trend.... which could vanish in two weeks....

There never was a trend for the dems to take control of congress; only traitorous media manipulation and democrat shenanigans.

In 2004 Dick went back and forth practically every night with his predictions. I rarely take him seriously. In this case though he seems to be right. Polls do show some GOP improvement.

Thank you for your post. I am sick of the "cut-and-run" conservatives. They make me sick. They are doing their best to see to it that Republicans lose just so they can look so morally and intellectually superior to the rest of us who are doing the work.

Your post makes sense.

RealClearPolitics, which averages all the polls, has moved one Senate seat out of the Dem. side in the last few days, so there is a trend, at least on the Senate side.

Geez, Morris really is useless, isn't he? He straddles the fence every time and then calls his predictions true.

TNC, at this point in the election cycle it looks like National Security and GOP $$$$ has taken over the campaigns. All this before GOTV even gets started.

Now look for Nancy Pelosi to screw up under the intense pressure of being under the spotlight.

"This is really a turnabout for Morris."

Disk Morris is like the weather forecaster telling you what yesterdays weather was. He is 100% accurate, but can't tell you if it will rain this afternoon.

By the time you hit an election, Morris is sure to have predicted every viable candidate as the winner, AND proclaimed it too close to call, so that whatever happens he still has a job the next day.
