It also happens in the non Muslim Indian community in Britain if they do not agree to an arranged marriage.

We have at least 3 to my knowledge that have been shown on TV how many more there are that never get reported as this type of killing I do dare to think.

I am not trying to defend the Muslim community here but just to clarify that it is just not confined to Muslims.

At the opposite end of the spectrum though I do think many Christian parents are now too tolerant of want their offspring get up to. Of course I do not agree to so called honour killings but Christians do need to have higher standards for their children than they currently have.

I call it soccer to identify that it is not what we call American football.

We do call it soccer but most people refer to it as association football. Actually the upper classes in Britain refer to it more than anyone else as soccer because to them football is rugby.

The full names of both games are:-

Association football (soccer)
Rugby football (rugby)

Thankfully I was not watching. Rarely watch. Read along on FR instead. But we had to leave for a couple of hours so I'm catching up on the thread now.

I don't know how polling can be successful these days.

Agree completely.
Been told that the automated polls like Rasmussen are more accurate. I can't accept that either.
We'll know in two and one half weeks!

Evidently Bush is having a "right wing" talk show summit this week? I hadn't heard.

He HAD a meeting with several talk show hosts on the 16th. Here is the FR thread.

As Talk Radio Wavers, Bush Moves to Firm Up Support (Hannity, Ingraham, Boortz and others)

Blair walks a very fine line with Klinton. He knows the man will stab him in the back in a heartbeat. As he did when he revealed the supposed 'secret' that Blair had a heart issue.

My favourite team is Arsenal, I am in fact a very small shareholder (one original share) and a season ticket holder.

Arsenal being presented with the Championship a few years ago

Dinner is roast chicken, new pototoes, sugar snaps.

Sweet (dessert) is pumpkin bread recipe given to me by a freeper on dose.

I had to make it from scratch as we do not have tinned pumpkin in Britain apart from speciality shops which we do not have in Ashford.

I take Condi at her word. She is not running. She feels free to say what she will.

I, for one, admire her accomplishments but find her too narrow on the Palestinian issue.

Of course, having family is Israel there is no doubt I am biased.

I'd not seen Election Projection before.  Thanks for posting that.

I just checked them out and their summary of the polls was dead on what the DBM is saying: 20 seat pick and control of the House to the dims, 5 seat loss for us in the Senate, making it a tie.  I was disappointed, but then I read on.  Here's an excerpt on the House:

On the House side, did anyone see that Selzer & Co. poll from Indiana CD-7?  When I saw the GOP candidate ahead by 3 points, my heart sank a bit thinking that another safe GOP seat was getting competitive.  Then I realized that IN-7 is a Democratic seat.  Well, lo and behold!  I think we will see this trend of more GOP-favorable polls continue over the last 17 days.  By the way, let me confirm once again that I stand by all three of the edicts I decreed earlier this year.

<snip>

Overall, it is clear to me that the GOP has indeed turned the corner - if it was ever really down in the first place.  My only real worry at this point is another "October surprise".  As an aside:  Isn't it sad that we should have to worry about some politically-charged scandal being released just in time to influence the election?  I hope we're done with that mess for this cycle - from both sides.  Back to my optimism.  I believe now that the effort by the media to portray the GOP faithful as depressed and unenergized has failed to produce GOP faithful who are depressed and unenergized.  That is the main reason I'm feeling good this week.

I smiled.  Again, thanks for the link.

Agreed. I could not find it but I think it was Reagan who said something along the lines of 'if you're with me 80% of the time, we can win together.' Some thing like that.

The point was we have to remain true to our conservative principles just as others in our party do to theirs. As long as we agree on most issues we can come to common ground. None of this banishing someone over a single issue as the Democrats did with Joe Lieberman. As long as we can keep moving towards our conservative agenda, we'll be fine.

Wow Obama's father was a devout Muslim, no wonder the DNC/DBM loves him so much. They probably know who he is. Not surprised to find it here on FR,this guy is a worse fraud than I ever imagined. Your link should be required reading for all here.

Soros has made clear his intent to control the internet.

We cannot be in denial. Clearly AOL, Google, and others have obeyed China in it's demands as to what can be shown. Recently YouTube took Michelle Malkin videos off their site. There was quite a backlash and they were replaced, but we must be vigilant and not assume the net is free.

eeevil conservative: I REFUSE to allow the media or Satan trapse around this country UNCHALLENGED!

rodguy911: ...the dems are getting closer and closer to those that we fight in Iraq.

Sadly, the situation has now deteriorated to the point described by the two, excellent comments quoted above. And I have even found it necessary to argue with Libertarians etc. who constantly want to decry the lack of a formal declaration of war and so on as grounds for questioning the Administration's efforts to protect this nation.

We, as a nation, may not now be governable in a fashion that provides for the common defense. The question of whether the country can ever be brought together prior to another and even more devastating attack on the homeland is looming larger and larger. The coming midterm elections will shed a great deal of light on this matter, the gravest dilemma of my soon to be six plus decades as a citizen of the Republic.

Many respected historians, which I am sure is not news to the informed members of FR, have opined that the only truly united period of the American experience was from 1941 to 1945. It is difficult for me to disagree; either we get it together ourselves, and very soon, or our enemies will do the job for us.

I recently asked an acquaintance, who is sitting out the election based on perceived threats to his civil liberties, if he would still be expressing pleasure at the Patriot Act's etc. elimination while he was standing in the radioactive rubble of his former residence. I am beating this drum everywhere at every opportunity.

Polling by the MSM has one agenda. Create a false impression of the electorate.

They might as well be reading tea leaves for all the accuracy involved.

As long as there are still some people believing the lie they consider themselves successful.
