WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) today issued the following statement on the suspension of a Democrat House Intel Committee staffer pending review of the possibility that the staffer illegally leaked sensitive intelligence to The New York Times:
"We are a nation at war and intelligence is one of the most valuable tools we have to fight terrorists. Intelligence should never be used as a political weapon.
"It is absolutely necessary that the House Intel Committee conduct a thorough review of the illegal leak of intelligence to The New York Times in war time. I support Chairman Hoekstra's decision to suspend a staffer who may have orchestrated the leak until all the facts are known.
"I hope Democrats would never knowingly and illegally leak sensitive information just to score political points. And that's what an investigation would determine. I would expect anyone who is found to have illegally leaked such information to be terminated from government employment and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
"The safety and security of the American people is too important to risk with partisan political games."

I really don't think that we'll be eating our hats any time soon. If you want truth, the mainstream media is the last place to look for it. They are, as you note, in the fantasy business - they offer entertainment in the guise of "news" in order to sell ad space and air time. They also create propaganda to further their personal and professional agendas. A repulsive lot, most of them.
You seem to have an inordinate respect for the power of the main stream media to guide the political discussion in this country. You are right in one respect: the rat house organs will do the exact opposite with this story as they are doing with Foley. They will attempt to ignore it out of existence.
I doubt that will work. That don't have the power or influence they once had, let alone the credibility. Other media sources and the conservative press will give it good play (and if I'm correct that this is the beginning of an orchestrated 'October Surprise') and so will Republican candidates in their campaign ads.
We'll have to see how this plays out, but for right now, my money is on the hand of Rove.
He's been named, I think. I just read another article on FR. He's a democrat and Jane Harmon is psssssddddd.
Yes, I think s/he does.
Mother Jones--good grief.
Your guess would be right on:

Why didn't the NYT report this leak to the proper authorities? The were aiding and abetting a criminal, a traitor. The NYT needs to be brought up on charges!
You can "hope" in one hand and $#%! in the other. See which one gets filled first.
Go Roy! Whoever it is, if they DID leak, needs to be prosecuted. One or two convictions for this kind of stuff and the leaks will stop.
We will just have to keep hammering.
Well I have the sauce ready in case an outbreak of Truth and Decency strikes the Treason Media.
