U.S. tracking N. Korean ship with banned military equipment: CBS News
Kyodo ^ | Oct 19

U.S. intelligence has detected the departure from a North Korean port of a North Korean ship suspected of carrying military equipment banned under a U.N. sanctions resolution against Pyongyang's Oct. 9 nuclear test, CBS News reported Thursday.

The United States is tracking the ship, CBS said, noting that it remains uncertain exactly what the ship is carrying and where it is headed.

May I be the FIRST to remind everyone that it is *NOT* a ship but just false radar echoes from the storm?

Where is 68-69GulfofTonkinYachtClub anyway?

Recall the Japanese pleasure boat that was sunk by a U.S. submarine that surfaced just under the boat. Timing is everything.

How do you negotiate with someone who wants a war?

With a forceful response (i.e., dropping a MOAB on top of his bad hair cut).

Once it reaches international waters, then it's fair game for interdiction. As long as it's being tracked now, that's all that matters.

The vote on U.N. Security Council Resolution 1718 was unanimous. You may wish to read it.

Anything out of that collective body ain't worth spit. Didn't Saddam teach anyone a lesson?

Gee ... Wasn't that nice of CBS to let North Korea know about this ?

North Korea knows we can track them. They're just seeing how we'll react to this latest chess move by the pot-bellied dictator.

Why not ask the Russians or the Chinese to handle the boarding under the UN agreement. If they refuse, we could board and they couldn't complain. If they do board, we track the cargo to its destination and if it is an illegal shipment, they got a whole lot of explaining to do. Either way, you take the Russians and the Chinese out of the equation. Just a thought.

I can tell you where it's headed. Straight for Davey Jones' Locker if it doesn't heave to at the warning shot

Sorry, but the EPA is very serious about enforcing laws against ocean pollution. USC 33:8 provides for summary trials and imprisonment for violators.

I'm sure the USSC will rule that any US naval officers found to be polluting the ocean by attacking DPRK vessels carrying environmentally-unfriendly materials should be relieved of command and imprisoned - with Mr. Justice Kennedy casting the deciding vote.

All UN members voting for a meaningless resolution is still meaningless.

I think as time passes, more people are missing my original point, which was not about the effectiveness of the Security Council, but the likelihood of members complaining about a Resolution they favored.

I bet the NK ship's IMO-required AIS message broadcast is pretty cheesy.

And if we don't board the ship because of all this fear you seem to have of the consequences, what will follow? Something far worst I'll wager...
