In January on PBS, Jim Lehrer asked Sen. Reid why lobbying reform was moving so slowly. Reid replied, "Jim, it's taken a while for this culture of corruption the Republicans have developed to come into the fore." Aspiring "Speaker Pelosi" just gave a speech at Georgetown University pledging to "drain the swamp" of GOP corruption on Capitol Hill. The Democratic National Committee even had a page on their Website devoted to the "Republican Culture of Corruption."
But that "Culture of Corruption" page on the DNC home page has disappeared. Something funny happened on the way to the polls this year. The Democrats have shown they have their own contemporary ethical problems. Luckily for them, it probably won't matter much on Nov. 7. The national news media have decided to ignore them.
Look no further than Reid himself. Associated Press reporters John Solomon and Kathleen Hennessy reported that Reid scored a windfall of $700,000, turning a $400,000 real-estate investment in Las Vegas in 1998 to a $1.1 million land deal in 2004 -- even though he apparently had sold the property to a casino lobbyist buddy in 2001. He did not report the facts on his Senate financial disclosure forms -- while he served on the Senate Ethics Committee.
When the AP called Reid for comment, he hung up on them. You would think that an aggressive, fair and balanced media would have been incensed and activated. But we don't have a fair and balanced national media.
It should be said that major newspaper editorial pages were not impressed with Reid's defense. The Washington Post suggested that "Mr. Reid's professions of transparency and full disclosure are transparently wrong."
But the network distaste for saying anything critical of the Democratic leader was obvious. .......CNN stood out as especially pathetic....." more

And that his 4 Lobbyist son's might be out of a job?
"but one really has to wonder"
I agree fully. It would be nice if he would make his returns public. I and a lot of others would just love a looksee. But this and the other revelations indicate a probability that after the election he may surrender his post ( unless the Dems win, in which case they have no shame).
Understatement Award of The Year, Brent.
Yes, but did we here at FR expect anything less?
What is even more repugnant, disgusting, disheartening and down right frustrating is the complete and total silence from the Pubes.
Has ANYONE seen or heard from so much as ONE Republican ANYWHERE in the entire Country criticizing ol Harry?
What is it with these Girlie Men? Are they all hiding under Olympia Snowe's skirt?
Sheesh!!!
Can anyone doubt that for one minute, the RATS would not have been holding a press conference on the steps of the Capital the very next day if this had been a Republican AND calling for his/her resignation?
What a bunch of wusses!!!
WHO is in charge of the House and Senate?
The Dhimis continue to act as if they never lost; the Pubes, like they don't know how to use their power effectively.
"Lets all hold hands, sing Kumbaya and jist go along to gitt along." BARF.
Thank God MS. Frist is going and I hope MRS. Hastert gets the boot as well, though it probably won't do much good as the Pubes will acquiesce and only consider "consensus builders" when looking for replacements--probably having gotten the pre-approval of Pelosi and Kennedy.
Why can there be hearings on Foley within a week of that little fiasco becoming public but nary a word about his highness even being considered for close scrutiny?
What a golden opportunity wasted, IMHO.
IF it were not that we are seriously at risk and engaged in a War Against Islamofacism, I WOULD stay home. As it is, I will have to hold my nose come Nov. 7th.
PS An apology to all FR members of the female persuasion and my rant was not meant to diss any of you as I'm sure there are many here who are more capable of exercising "leadership" qualities than most of our "R" elected officials.
Its just I'm so frustrated that we have so many men who are [un]able and [un]willing to act as if they were, in fact, "males."
Surely this is where we make our mistakes, not insisting that dems resign. Culture of corruption continues until Reid goes.
I can only hope that Karl Rove has something up his sleeve and it will come out soon. Maybe they know they need not make a giant stink about Dingy Harry .......... or then again, maybe they ARE JUST A BUNCH OF COWARDS as they certainly seem.
But beyond the spineless self-absorbed politicians, I hate the media. I've never seen it so dishonest as it is now, and I've been watching it closely for over forty years.
Can't read the rest of the article. Guess yahoo pulled it.
Have any of the reports mentioned that the guy Reid went into partnership with is a big-time financial criminal?
The Justice Dept. if full of Clinto appointees. They fired everybody and put their people in. Bush never cleaned out the Clinto people.
Don't expect any interest by the Jusitce Dept..
How many on this forum are shouting from the rooftops that pubbies must go/must be punished?
Shouldn't his dealings make as much news as Tom Delay's did? Innocent or guilty, Delay got horrible press. That should be the standard here. Two leaders of two parties with accusations/charges of corruption.
lsm sickness
He's a cheapskate too. Anyone remember hearing about the incident where he punched his future father-in-law in the face?
Who would be the best type of person to explain this? A CPA? The problem with this scandal is it might be hard for the media to explain properly, or for the public to understand.
Yep. Until things hit the MSM, they don't truly exist. The most consistent voters are seniors, and many (like my family) don't have computers, or want them. They have talk radio and the MSM. Sometimes, if stories are talked about enough online and on talk radio, commentators on TV are forced to deal with them.
"I am, by nature, somebody that ... I was raised where you settled your differences physically, and I still have a little of that in me and I'm fighting that all the time. I don't want to be mean to people," he said.

The next time Reid is up for reelection, the GOP should run adds against Reid using the theme music from COPS.
Actually, the amount of profit and how it was accounted for are irrelevant, unless Reid was doing some additionally underhanded things. The issue in this case is disclosure -- as a "silent" partner in the LLC, he was able to push legislation that favored a business interest that was not disclosed to the ethics committee or to the general public.
Even though conservatives are disgruntled by a lack of leadership everywhere but in the House, this election does present a golden opportunity to drive a stake in the heart of the Leftist msm. They have gone so overboard in their blatant pushing of the "hate Bush" agenda of the Democrats, that their influence would practically be destroyed with a GOP victory. It's really a chance for a "two-fer" for conservatives, getting the msm and the Dems with one shot.
