Bloomberg's Car Stolen, Aide Beaten By Thieves
(AP) NEW YORK A personal employee of Mayor Michael Bloomberg was beaten by thieves who then carjacked the billionaire's car Wednesday morning in New Jersey, authorities said.
The employee was driving the 2001 Lexus in Hackensack, N.J., on an errand for the mayor shortly before 9 a.m. when he was approached by a woman who came to the window to ask for money, police said. As he declined and began to roll up the window, a man got into the passenger seat and punched him in the face.
"They force him out and take off," said Hackensack police Capt. Frank Lomia.
The car was found about two hours later, abandoned on the side of the road in Fair Lawn, N.J. Police were looking for the two suspects.
Bloomberg's employee was not seriously injured and his name was not released. He is one of many staffers who take care of Bloomberg's personal business and his homes, including his townhouse in Manhattan and country house in upstate New York.
A REGISTERED DEMOCRAT - or Bloomberg flunky.
If the thing speaks in the woods and no one is listening, does anyone hear? If you ARE a conservative, you will be needing my support in the future. You haven't convinced me your actions say anything anyone will hear so lots of luck with the public at large.
Maybe the driver thought he could confiscate some trans fat cannolis, what with that being the Mayor's latest obsession.
---Police were looking for the two suspects. Two people matching their description were spotted at a convenience store in the area just before the car was stolen. ---
What description?
It happened in New Jersey, so what? If the guy driving the car had been smarter he would have not opened the window and would not have been driving around with the doors unlocked. All you would be John Wayne's notwithstanding, you have no clue what a person would have done in this circumstance. I know you all dream of killing the bad guy........
Maybe this didn't go down as the driver claimed. Maybe he was cruising for hookers in the bosses fancy car and got carjacked when he was distracted soliciting a hooker. That might explain why the passenger door was unlocked, since he was expecting the hooker to get in the car.
Why else would the mayor of NYC's assistant be driving his car in Jersey? Not exactly taking it to get an oil change. :)
Allegra, stay safe. I sure hope the people in your "neighborhood" appreciate what you are doing as much as we do. What some folks won't do to get away from the gulf coast traffic and humidity! Fare well, and know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and the fine folks you are working with!
PAR, she is back in a neighborhood that used to be under the brutal tyranny of a dictator. For real.
Why were the doors unlocked?
Well - at least no one was smoking OR was eating trans fats! Bloomberg is worried about REAL crime.
Some problems,
1) This gazillionair with a five year old car
2) It's NYC and the driver rolls down the window to talk to a woman who wants money
3) The accomplice gets in the car through an apparently unlocked passenger side door
4) The driver is forced out and the car jacked, apparently by a guy without a weapon.
Anybody else question the account?
I would. I couldn't listen to that whinning New YAWK accent for more than tne minutes before going totally ballistic.
How unfortunate for this aide. I'm glad he wasn't hurt seriously.
Do people still warn about keeping car doors locked while driving? (I chuckle when I remember the point my dad used to make about locking the doors when approaching "bad areas" in Chicago when I was younger.)
If the passenger side door was locked then that person couldn't have entered the car...
A good idea to remember if you ask me - especially as car jackings are a problem in big cities nowadays...
Charlie Varick (sp)?
Damn right it smells. Dosen't a 2001 Lexus have automatic door locks that engage when you drive it?
And why no description of the perps? Hmmm.
Yeah, that's the one. He was a crop duster. He get's the syndicate thugs chasing him. As I recall Charlie is the only who gets away alive.
Yes she is!! She was in total shock after it happened, almost didn't want to believe it.
Actually it's Corzine's little Utopia.
Most cars nowadays lock their own doors the moment you take the car out of "Park".
What was the errand, I wonder.
Guess he just didn't like the "Bridge & Tunnel" ladies.
Gotta tell ya though, my thoughts went the same way.
Paging Donald Manes...... oh...never mind.
