...England specialty known as a chip butty: a French-fries-and-butter sandwich doused in vinegar. And THAT is considered HEALTHY????????....Sounds absolutely hideous!.......

No, the school is trying to serve a healthy lunch, just the kids aren't eating it.

No that is not considered healthy. It is what the kid bought on the way to school.

No, it's not considered healthy- it's what the kid was eating instead of what was offered at school.
It does sound grotesque though.

Malt Vinegar and salt are the only thing that belongs on fries.
English food has its high points: Cornish pasties (basically a hot pocket made out of pie crust or biscuit dough with meat and vegetables and/or fruit filling), fish and chips, bacon, marrow, steak and kidney pie, blood pudding. Beyond that, it's rough. I can see why these kids don't want to eat cucumber sandwiches. I was all excited about getting jellied eels in Greenwich, only to find that I don't like them at all.
The Scots have great traditional food.

I'm not exactly sure how you would construct such a sandwich. Gag!

And THAT is considered HEALTHY????????....Sounds absolutely hideous!....... Read it again. The child in question was eating the chip butty INSTEAD of the school offerings.
To: Red Badger
No; the article said that's what he was eating INSTEAD of the healthy food.
To: Red Badger
No. The kid was eating a chip butty instead of a healthy school luunch.

French fries and butty sounds like the kind of snack those
TV "cooks" who called themselves "The Two Fat Ladies" would eat....One or both of them are now dead, rather prematurely. They used to tool around the English countryside in a motorcyle and sidecar. Their show was hilarious and horrifying at the same time. They prepared as if by DESIGN, the worst looking sludge I have EVER seen.
They really came across as a parody, or like a good SNL skit from the 70s/
