There's More Than Buzz About Mitt
usnews.com ^ | October 17, 2006 | Paul Bedard

There's been a lot of political buzz about Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's 2008 bid for the Republican presidential nomination, and now I know why: In one swoop, his Commonwealth PAC this week hired what could be the A-team of political consultants.

"Mitt Romney means business," says media guru Alex Castellanos. The proof: Romney picked one of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's longtime advisers, Sally Bradshaw, who has worked for both President Bushes and was Jeb Bush's chief of staff for a while. What does her hiring mean?

"Where Sally Bradshaw goes, a lot of Jeb Bush's people will follow," says Castellanos, of National Media Inc. And, of course, unlike his brother, Jeb is still very popular.

Next: Barbara Comstock joins as a political consultant.

"She's the best-kept secret in Washington. She's done more than anyone to get George Bush elected," says Castellanos. She has deep roots in the conservative movement, worked at Justice, and has a long history of dogging Democrats, as anybody who remembers the Clinton Whitewater scandal will remember. What's more, she's got good ties to Washington journalists.

Also: Noam Neusner comes on to help write speeches and craft Romney's public image. Neusner left U.S. News to help write Bush economic speeches long ago. But his influence spread, and he eventually became the administration's Jewish outreach coordinator and budget communications czar before leaving to start his own consulting business.

Insiders said the moves propel Romney to the top tier with Sen. John McCain in the presidential bid and suggest that he's the comer in the race. Technically, the trio were hired on to help Romney's PAC influence the upcoming midterm elections, but I bet that they really came on to build up his image, platform, and national stature moving into 2007, when the nomination battle really begins.

> I would support Romney, but not enthusiastically. He is a robot. <

A semi-RINO? Perhaps. But a robot? No way.

A robot doesn't become the valedictorian of his class at BYU, then earn both law and MBA degrees from Harvard, help found a wildly successful company like Staples, save the Salt Lake City Olympics from utter financial ruin, and finally get elected as the Republican governor of a state that's 70% dhimmokratic.

I think Romney will run right, and govern there.
He'll be a pleasant suprise especially to people with low expectations of him.
In that regard he might just be the reverse of the current administration.

The only thing worse than a RINO is a Democrat.

Anti-RKBA. Anti-Private Property Rights. Bigger Nanny State government.

I'm sure we could compile quite a list once we get rolling...

Newt isn't exactly my ideal candidate, but at least he's to the Right of Bush. Which means he's to the FAR Right of Mitt, Rudy, John, or any of the other idiot mouth breathing RINO's the media is trying to hype.

I'm pretty sure Mitt Romney signed the Anti Kitten and Puppy Bill, making it perfectly legal for hooligans to use kittens and puppies in unsavory ways. Some even say that Mitt Romney descends into his basement at night, to the strains of pipe organ music (Bach, preferably), and practices voodoo.

More of a Rino than Mcpain, or Guiliani?

They're all the same....they all want to ban our guns.

Name one that's electable?

Condi Rice. Even Tom Tancredo if he runs hard on the immigration issue. A lot of squirming white anglo liberals are secretly in a panic mode over this issue. They might vote for a candidate that is serious about closing the borders. But so long as there is no real definitive difference those RATs will vote the party ticket.

If he practiced Voudoun instead of Santeria it wouldn't be such a big deal. Papa Ghede is the shiznit.

Sorry, I just can't get worked up over a "universal healthcare" candidate.

Hell, I'm from Massachusetts and I can't get worked up over a Massachusetts candidate. After Dukakis and Kerry did such a grand job of embarassing our state, I think all citizens from Massachusetts should be barred from running for national office for a period of twenty years.

Are you pro-RKBA? Are you for smaller, more Constitutional government? Do you want to re-privatize the medical care industry? Do you want to end corperate welfare? Are you strong on National defense including the defense of our Borders? Do you feel that private property should never be taken just to be given to another private party, no matter what some ephemeral "public good" may derrive from it?

Those are my "litmus test" issues. They cut pretty close to the core of the things I look for. If you answered "yes" to all of them, why don't you run??

Unfortunately that might be our choice this time. Unless there's a real conservative out there no one knows about yet.

So did Clinton. At least you are honest about inhaling. De-criminalizing drugs is a low priority item for me, as I don't personally indulge in such things, but it is on the list.

There are several we DO know about. Every one of which would be electable with the GOP behind them.

Allen. Pence. Tancredo. Gingrich.

They've all got their warts, but they are also far and above more "conservative" than Guilliani, Romney, McCain, Bloomberg...
