WASHINGTON -- Wesley Snipes, whose flash and dash style of acting carried him from the streets of the South Bronx to movie stardom, has been indicted on charges of conspiracy and tax fraud, federal officials announced today.
Snipes, 44, was also charged with six counts of failing to file income tax returns. If convicted of all of the charges, he could be sentenced to as much as 16 years in prison.
Snipes' whereabouts could not be determined, said Steve Cole, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office for the Middle District of Florida.

I wonder what the Infernal Raping Society would do if 200 million of us decided not to file.
If they only knew it was their money!
I hear on the radio that he's being charged with having claimed $12 million in refunds to which he wasn't entitled.
$12 million is no big deal for Snipes. Do one more crappy movie and Uncle Sam gets paid.
It would proceed to use the legal system to make life a living hell for all 200 million people.
It would collect lots of fine money and a whole lot of people would have a criminal record and a few would go to prison. It might even end up with some houses to sell at foreclosure.
The government holds all the cards. Don't mess with the feds or the mafia, for pretty much the same reasons.
I posted this article because it contains a lot more details than the original AP release.
The IRS is different. There is no correlation to the Stewart case. He could end up selling dircet to dvd movies on late night TV (ala Willie Nelson).
After a few people got busted, with plenty of publicity, just about everybody else would "voluntarily" comply, just as they do now.
The sad fact is there's really no alternative to paying your full liability on time. If you don't, it just gets worse.
Thanks for the link.
I think that he is in a world of trouble.
Not filing when you have no income to report is quite different from claiming 12 million in unlawful exemptions.
I wonder if he's good friends with Michael Jackson. Perhaps he could move to the mideast, too. Of course he would want to convert...I understand non-moslems are taxed pretty severely. I doubt they're very nice to those who don't pay.
So does this mean no Blade 8 or Major League 15?
Mr Snipes, meet your cell-mate, Mr Hatch.
Change the rules. Like say make food and water subject to consumption taxes. That ought to get most folks attention in a short period of time.
Oh, and about that not filing thing. You go first. I'll be right behind you.
Pay the back-taxes, Mr. Snipes.
