Are Democrats stepping out of the Socialist/Communist closet? It seems that in one way they have blundered their way into the public eye. The newest buzz phrase for the Democrats is the common good. This to me is an ominous phrase. Far too close to Marxs (thats Karl, not Graucho) From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.
According to Rachell Zoll, AP Religion Writer in an article on the ABC news politics web page , this new catch phrase is seen as a way to describe liberal values and reach religious voters who rejected Democrats in the 2004 election.
According to the ABC report, John Halprin, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, sees this as:
a core value that we think organizes the entire political agenda for progressives. With the rise of materialism, greed and corruption in American society, people want a return to a better sense of community sort of a shared sacrifice, a return to the ethic of service and duty.
Well they sure got that right, it is a progressive philosophy, the progressive philosophy of Marx, Engels, and Trotsky (not to mention Stalin). Alexia Kelly, executive director of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good and former religious adviser to 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry said:
Our religious traditions call us to that deeper vision of caring for all, being in it together, not a go-it-alone culture.
This is what happens when Liberals attempt to bend Christs words to serve their own narrow socialist political agenda. It also illustrates how little Liberals comprehend the lessons Christ was attempting to teach.Christ never advocated the idea of the state extorting money from the citizens to fund charities. Christ in fact made a point of stating, when he was asked if followers of God should pay taxes to a human king, that his followers should:
render unto Caesar that which is Caesars, and unto God that which is Gods.[Matthew 22:15-22 ]
For all their good intentions in wanting the state to provide for the needs of the poor, charity must come from the heart for it to have meaning, not at the end of a gun, or an IRS form 1040.
Liberals want to use the government to achieve their own social agenda. They seek to assuage their gelt guilt by getting the government to do what they should be doing on their own. If Al Gore can get the government to support unwed mothers, then he doesnt have to spend any of his own money doing so (that explains his $353 contributions on an income of $197,729 in 1998) .
In contrast to Al Gore bountiful munificence, that miserly Vice President, Dick Cheney, donated a paltry $6.87 million in 2005.
I have repeatedly read articles in which Liberals snidely quote Christ when he said
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to ascend into Heaven, [Matthew 19:24]
as they criticize wealthy Christians for being hypocrites. This again illustrates a fundamental incapability to comprehend what Christ was saying. It was not that the man had achieved wealth that caused the difficulty, it was his attachment to that wealth.
Perhaps if Democrats were to give as much to real charitable organizations as they do to political advocacy groups, our charities would be in a much better financial condition. Of the top 15 organizations filing as 527s, 12 are in the Democrat tent and 3 the Republican. Of the top 5 money holders, the top four, all Leftist total $50 million. The fifth 527, Club for Growth (a Republican advocacy group), is funded to a total of $6.2 million. Of the next 5, the top four (6-9), again all Leftist, total $18.7 million compared to No. 10, the College Republican National Committee, receives $2.7 million. These disparities in contributions continue througout the top 50 as listed on OpenSecrets.org. Democrats sure love soft money, thats certain.
I guess what people consider worthy charities varies with their political philosophy. I can see where Liberals priorities lie
My own gut reaction to this phrase was that it is very reminiscent of the slogans Sacrifice for the good of the state, or for the benefit of the masses. I also remember when Hillary described the American people as the governments clients.
AAARRGGHHH! I believe that I heard quite enough of that from the leaders of the former Soviet Union and the Peoples Republic of China
no thanks. It sounds good at first blush, but it costs far too much in the end. Count me out!
Wow! Great Work.
Copied & saved, if you don't mind.
I'm always puzzled when libs go off on the "need" to help all those poor people who must number about 87% of the population by their estimates. The fact is the left side of the political spectrum has trillions of dollars in assets. Since the great majority of the "poor" are most likely Dems or Dem sympathizers, why couldn't all the wealthy Dems distribute their largesse to all their needy cohorts?
Very funny. The real hilarious thing is I'd bet most libs who might read that faux statement of Comrade Pelosi would probably find little fault in it. They probably do believe that all the money is the gov's to redistribute.

You're welcome. bttt for # 19.
"progressive" is the most abused word by the left.
Democrats are not progress oriented, they are POWER oriented. Holding BACK progress is the objective of power control freaks like the Democrat Party.
The other seminar caller effort by democrats to turn down turnout is the BS of "both parties are the same."
SUUUUURE, pelosi would have supported Alito.
Suuuuuure, Reid just loved Alito
Tax cuts
The 700 mile FUNDED start of the wall on mexico's border
and
so
on
The parties have never been MORE different in the last 30 years.
People have been confusing socialism for Christianty for a long time.
It drives me batty when people misuse Christ's words about rendering to Caesar... apparently they have forgotten who Caesar is in our system of government.

"liberal democrats are just communist-lite."
IMHO....liberal democrats are hardcore down and dirty communists....the only thing they lack is absolute power. right now they're hiding behind compassion signs. (listen to their rhetoric when they scream for gun control again)
Oh that camel and needle analogy... the camel could not get through the needle gate unless his load was removed.
"i am noticing that progressives are international."
aka/internationlist, revolutionary, murdering, thieving swine.
democrats are not confusing socialism with Christianity.
they are intentionally likening the two to each other.
When John Kerry visited Cleveland during the 2004 campaign, CPUSA had banners, a booth and was selling Workers World Daily inside the pavilion on the mall where he was speaking.
I find that "liberal", "leftist", "progressive" and "socialist" are nothing but new-speak bullsh*t for hard-core, unrepentant "neo-Stalinist".
