Skip to comments.Democrats Confusing Socialism and Christianity

Are Democrats stepping out of the Socialist/Communist closet? It seems that in one way they have blundered their way into the public eye. The newest buzz phrase for the Democrats is the common good. This to me is an ominous phrase. Far too close to Marxs (thats Karl, not Graucho) From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.
According to Rachell Zoll, AP Religion Writer in an article on the ABC news politics web page , this new catch phrase is seen as a way to describe liberal values and reach religious voters who rejected Democrats in the 2004 election.
According to the ABC report, John Halprin, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, sees this as:
a core value that we think organizes the entire political agenda for progressives. With the rise of materialism, greed and corruption in American society, people want a return to a better sense of community sort of a shared sacrifice, a return to the ethic of service and duty.
Well they sure got that right, it is a progressive philosophy, the progressive philosophy of Marx, Engels, and Trotsky (not to mention Stalin). Alexia Kelly, executive director of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good and former religious adviser to 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry said:
Our religious traditions call us to that deeper vision of caring for all, being in it together, not a go-it-alone culture.
This is what happens when Liberals attempt to bend Christs words to serve their own narrow socialist political agenda. It also illustrates how little Liberals comprehend the lessons Christ was attempting to teach.Christ never advocated the idea of the state extorting money from the citizens to fund charities. Christ in fact made a point of stating, when he was asked if followers of God should pay taxes to a human king, that his followers should:
render unto Caesar that which is Caesars, and unto God that which is Gods.[Matthew 22:15-22 ]
For all their good intentions in wanting the state to provide for the needs of the poor, charity must come from the heart for it to have meaning, not at the end of a gun, or an IRS form 1040.
Liberals want to use the government to achieve their own social agenda. They seek to assuage their gelt guilt by getting the government to do what they should be doing on their own. If Al Gore can get the government to support unwed mothers, then he doesnt have to spend any of his own money doing so (that explains his $353 contributions on an income of $197,729 in 1998) .
In contrast to Al Gore bountiful munificence, that miserly Vice President, Dick Cheney, donated a paltry $6.87 million in 2005.
I have repeatedly read articles in which Liberals snidely quote Christ when he said
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to ascend into Heaven, [Matthew 19:24]
as they criticize wealthy Christians for being hypocrites. This again illustrates a fundamental incapability to comprehend what Christ was saying. It was not that the man had achieved wealth that caused the difficulty, it was his attachment to that wealth.
Perhaps if Democrats were to give as much to real charitable organizations as they do to political advocacy groups, our charities would be in a much better financial condition. Of the top 15 organizations filing as 527s, 12 are in the Democrat tent and 3 the Republican. Of the top 5 money holders, the top four, all Leftist total $50 million. The fifth 527, Club for Growth (a Republican advocacy group), is funded to a total of $6.2 million. Of the next 5, the top four (6-9), again all Leftist, total $18.7 million compared to No. 10, the College Republican National Committee, receives $2.7 million. These disparities in contributions continue througout the top 50 as listed on OpenSecrets.org. Democrats sure love soft money, thats certain.
I guess what people consider worthy charities varies with their political philosophy. I can see where Liberals priorities lie
My own gut reaction to this phrase was that it is very reminiscent of the slogans Sacrifice for the good of the state, or for the benefit of the masses. I also remember when Hillary described the American people as the governments clients.
AAARRGGHHH! I believe that I heard quite enough of that from the leaders of the former Soviet Union and the Peoples Republic of China
no thanks. It sounds good at first blush, but it costs far too much in the end. Count me out!
Liberal Democrats are just communist-lite.
REID MUST RESIGN!!!!!!!!
The religious leaders they will reach are the ones they will crush upon gaining power.
Yep. Those two words ("common good") never cease to send a cold shiver up my spine. Maybe it's because nothing non-catostrophic has ever come from them.
Everyone should help out others, and everyone should contribute to the common good.
But one of the worst ways of accomplishing these objectives is through a government bureaucracy.
The people who are doing the most for the common good of our country and our civilization at the moment are active duty troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The people who are doing least are corrupt government elitists like Kerry, Reid, and Kennedy.
"Are Democrats stepping out of the Socialist/Communist closet?"
They are here in Minnesota. Notice the Soldiers of Solidarity banner right beneath the Minnesota Democratic link and the DSCC link. They're not so quiet about it here.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" [Matthew 5:3]
You can be rich but be poor in spirit.
Pelosi Says Bushs Failed Economic Policies Are Pillaging Government Coffers
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released a statement denouncing President Bushs economic policies. While President Bush continues to trumpet his so-called economic achievements, the fact is his wanton tax cuts are pillaging the public treasury, Pelosi said. Funds that should rightfully be in the hands of the government have been turned back to private interests under the elitist notion that money belongs to those whove earned it.
A nation is a social enterprise, Pelosi continued. The outputs are the collective property of all. It is the job of congress to use these outputs for the benefit of the nation.
Pelosi ridiculed what she called Bushs naïve theory that profits encourage investment. Profits expropriate the bread created by the working classes. So-called entrepreneurs and investors are just fancy terms for people who are really looters.
Democrats will bring a more humane economic policy to the country, Pelosi promised. Under our plan, each person will be asked to contribute to the full extent of his or her ability. In return, the government will take care to ensure that each person receives what he or she needs.
Pelosi characterized the separation between so-called private and public property an artificial distinction without moral value. Ultimately, all property and income are public. It is shameful that some are permitted to have more than they need while others suffer from want. Given sufficient support by voters this November, we intend to fix that.
Democrats propose a New Direction to provide real tax help to hard-pressed families, which will inject demand into our economy, spur economic growth that will produce jobs, and reduce the deficit, and we will do it in a fiscally responsible way.
I am noticing that Progressives are international. They are in England and France, too.
Liberals are just fine with mixing politics with religion just so long as you think Jesus was a commie.
How "Progressive" Christians see Jesus.
Most mainline Protestant churches are, to one degree or another, post-Christian. If they no longer seem disposed to converting the unbelieving to Christ, they can at least convert them to the boggiest of soft-left political clichés, on the grounds that if Jesus were alive today hed most likely be a gay Anglican bishop in a committed relationship driving around in an environmentally friendly car with an Arms Are for Hugging sticker on the way to an interfaith dialogue with a Wiccan and a couple of Wahhabi imams. ~ Mark Steyn
Second Thessalonians: "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat."
self-ping for later
So according to the Democrats, Jesus wants us all to follow his example and be good communists? Somehow I don't think that Jesus' message was to let Big Government take over our lives and do our thinking for us, but I really don't believe that the Democrats mean any of this anyway. Their newfound interest in Christian morality is just one more smelly turd in their already giant, steaming pile of bull****.
Thanks for the post of the 'Buddy Christ' image, Matchett-PI.
