WHY DOESN'T JACK WANT TO DEBATE? REASON NUMBER 21: HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW HE'S VOTED HIMSELF 12 CONSECUTIVE PAY RAISES

Monday, October 16, 2006

(MONONGAHELA, October 16) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- responding to Jack Murtha's refusal to meet with her to debate the issues -- today released this statement:

"Why is Jack Murtha scared to debate me? Two leading newspapers in our district -- the Washington Observer-Reporter, and Jack Murtha's own hometown newspaper, the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat -- have now urged him to debate. Several TV stations have offered to air the debate, so that the public can tune in for themselves and see the contrasting visions we have. And the League of Women Voters has offered to sponsor and set up the debate.

"Yet Jack Murtha refuses. His official response was, 'My record's out there for everyone to see … I've done it the same way all the time.'

"Of course, Jack Murtha is counting on the fact that everyone in the district thinks he's the same old Jack Murtha they always knew. But we know otherwise. As I've pointed out before, if you think the Jack Murtha of 2006 is the same Jack Murtha you've been supporting for the last three decades, you don't know Jack -- and for proof, you can visit YouDontKnowJack.org to read up on the Jack Murtha you never knew.

"As I said last week, the only reasonable conclusion one can reach is that Jack Murtha is flat-out scared to debate me. He knows I will hold him accountable for his record, and for his behavior as our Congressman. And he knows that debating me would be a sure-fire loser for his campaign.

"But just because Jack Murtha is scared to debate me doesn't mean the voters of the 12th District should be denied the information they would have received had Jack Murtha been willing to meet to discuss the issues. So today, and for the remaining days of this campaign, I will offer one reason per day why Jack Murtha is scared to debate me. There are 21 days left to campaign, so I will offer 21 reasons.

"Reason #21 that Jack Murtha is scared to debate me: he doesn't want anyone to know that HE HAS VOTED HIMSELF TWELVE CONSECUTIVE PAY RAISES."

Mrs. Smooth and I are discussing the concept. She's the keeper of our modest grounds! I just get to keep the lawnmower running. :-)

After the 7th of November, she will be going to Washington, D.C. to represent the people of Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional District.

Absolutely, and the people will be better represented than they have been in 32 years.

Mrs. Jaz and Mrs. Smooth have their yard pride in common, no doubt.

Mrs. Smooth has met Diana, so I may have a chance.

At this point in time, it is all about voter turn-out. If you live in the district, volunteer to help Diana Irey to find and contact every Republican voter there is. Tell them where to vote and how to get a ride if they need one. Call them. Knock on their doors. Whatever it takes. Every available Veteran and military family member and retired "Old Fart" Republican and conservative in the district needs to be in on Irey's GOTV operation if at all possible... starting today if not sooner.

In 2002, the district had a near 43% turn out (if I did the math right...) If Republicans turn out in higher per centages than Democrats, she needs fewer "cross-over" votes in order to win...and any additional votes after that will only add to her margin of victory. A 20% cross over vote, with maximized Republican participation guarantees a win.

For voters in the district, if you aren't working for the campaign, make a day or a night of the seventh. Take yer friends and families out to eat. Go bowling, vote, see a movie. Whatever works for you. Enjoy yourselves, vote, then enjoy yourselves some more.

A Force Of 1 (Chuck Norris On How Every One Of Us Can Make A Difference Alert)
Worldnetdaily.com ^ | 10/30/2006 | Chuck Norris

Korea: Now And Then

As I read the news about North Korea's problems in the world, my memories take me back to 1958, when, two months after graduating from high school, I enlisted in the United States Air Force.

I was stationed at Osan Air Base, South Korea, where I quickly learned the power of military discipline and the art of self-defense. I ate, drank, walked, talked and slept military life. And, after watching a display of Korean karate (called tang soo do) in a small village, a fire consumed me for the martial arts.

I learned a lesson back then that I've spent my life trying to teach others: We all possess God-given potential to make a difference on this planet.

Heroes Still Born In Numbers of One

The impact one person can have would become a successfully reoccurring theme for many of us action heroes in Hollywood.

Movies, however, are not real life, but real heroes are still born in numbers of one.

It sounds kind of canned, but there truly is a hero in all of us. We all were designed by God to be a blessing to others – a hero to someone. As my mother has always told me, I pass on to you: God has a plan for your life.

The question is: will we recognize and offer the power of our one life?

Facing the Giants

Few readers have probably heard of Michael Catt or Alex and Stephen Kendrick, but I believe they are great examples of how each of us can affect our world.

Catt is the senior pastor of Sherwood Baptist Church and has a vision for his congregation to ''reach the world from Albany, Georgia.'' Two of his pastoral staff (Alex and Stephen Kendrick) are materializing that vision through a lifelong dream to make films that reintroduce decency and faith back into the movie industry.

The Kendrick brothers created Sherwood Pictures, the church's filmmaking ministry, and just produced their second film, ''Facing the Giants,'' on a shoe-string budget and volunteer crew. This family-friendly and faith-filled motion picture is currently winning the hearts and minds of grassroots America. My wife, Gena, and I have seen it three times and taken others!

Even more, their work inspires me to do more faith-based movies in the future. This fresh infusion of biblical morals and values is desperately needed in our culture.

Recently Gena and I were talking about the fact that we don't need to travel around the world to make a difference. We all can make a difference in our own backyard. These Georgian clergy prove the point, and set an example for all of us.

You're Never Too Old to Kick Start

One of my life's principles is to ''develop myself to the maximum of my potential in all ways.'' Admittedly, that is not always easy, especially when you are sixty-six years old!

Two weeks ago, at the end of my ''Nightline'' interview with ABC host Bill Weir, he asked me my age, and I proudly told him. I added with a smile, ''I like to say I'm 39 with 27 years of experience!''

I loved his response even more. Quoting one of those thousands of ''Chuck Norris Facts'' circulating the Internet, Bill said, ''Well, according to the Chuck Norris Fact Generator, 'Chuck Norris doesn't age. He round-house kicks time in the face!'''

After a huge laugh, I sincerely thought about it and replied, ''That's exactly what I do!'' That's exactly what I believe we all should do.

Continuing to contribute to society is one of the reasons I created the World Combat League, which comes to Miami for the East Coast Playoffs on November 10. I am proud to say that all the profits of the WCL will go to my Kick Start inner-city karate program, which has graduated 40,000 children in 13 years, building resiliency through the values and philosophies taught through the martial arts.

Starting this program is proof that we're all never too old to Kick Start!

I'm still amazed as anybody when God uses my life to impact someone else in a special way. I've made plenty of mistakes in my life, and I sure don't claim to know all the answers.

I am convinced, however, of a force of one. As the great preacher D.L. Moody put it, quoted recently by our rural Californian pastor, ''I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And that which I can do, by the grace of God, I will do."

("Woodchuck" was one of my son's childhood heroes. Right beside the Ninja Turtles. It's amazing that I will proudly capitalize the magnificent role model found in the cartoons and refuse to capitalize someone who should be setting the ultimate model.)

jack murtha won't face the troops, won't face Diana Irey, and he won't face the people he represents but he allows Bob Schieffer to hold his hand and watch his back to "Face the Nation" on CBS and has the gall to tell outsiders this doesn't concern them (prior to the Boot Murtha rally)

BS: But here's the question I have, Mr. Murtha: You've never really said what you think is going to happen if we do redeploy the troops. Do you think things will get better, or will they get worse there?

Rep murtha: Well, Iraqis have more-they-can-they depend more on their people, and they have more confidence in their own people than they have in the US forces.

This is what all the polls indicate.

I think there'd be less chaos. I don't agree-just because they say there's going to be chaos

I don't agree that that's what's going to happen.

I believe the first step is to redeploy our troops.

Our troops are caught in a civil war.

BS: But what-but what is it that you see that once troops are out of there, or on the way out of there, what-what is it that you see that suggest that things will get better?

Rep murtha: The way we have to operate is use overwhelming force. And I agree with that; we want to protect American forces. But when we do that, we make enemies. We've lost the hearts and minds of the people... What I'm saying is our troops are the targets. They help recruit terrorists.

BS: We keep hearing from people who say the American military is turning against the war. Now, you have a lot of contacts in the military community. Do you think there's anything at all to that?

Rep. murtha: Well, there's no question about it.

They-they-realize-listen, the plan has changed from-from-from-from weapons of mass destruction, to al-Qaeda, to toppele Hussein, to-t0 stabilize iraq, to democratize Iraq.

...we have to stop spending so much money in Iraq.

BS: One quick question here. The president says if we leave, Iraq will become a haven for terrorists. Do you believe in fact that that will happen?

Rep. murtha: I think it's the opposite. I-I think more-there's more terrorism throughout the world, and all the polls indicate this.
